Hey there,

Am in the process of getting hold of a Bongo 4HH, and it seems like the only scratchplates that I can get with the bass are black ice or black pearloid, neither of which I think would suit the Lava Pearl colouring. Is there somewhere in the UK could I get hold of either white or white pearloid ones?

Also, how easy are they to fit for the average punter (ie. me)?

Many thanks,
james.

Too bad it's not a 5er. I would send you a white ice for free.

Yeah, I've noticed there does seem to be an impressive 5-string contingent throughout most of the serious bass-playing world, but I really feel like a '4-string player' at the moment. If I ever decide to expand my bass collection to 3 guitars (I already have an early 80s Ibanez Musician - my first and only bass since 1995), I'll have to make the choice between 5 strings or a fretless. Not ready for that decision yet though!

Hey James, I assume you actually have a number of options here in the UK. I'm pretty sure you can get any scratchplate EB makes for your Bongo by ordering through a music shop that sells EB products (who will then go through Strings and Things who will then order from EB USA, a lengthy process I'm sure).

Alternatively there are a number of sites on the interweb that already have the specs for pretty much any EB scratchplate configuration and will make you one in whatever style/colour you want. Or there is also the ebay route. Not many ebay sellers actually based in the UK, but I bought a clear plexi SR4 pickguard from Dazbootman's ebay store (US ebay site) and it only took about a week to get to me here in the UK. There are some other sellers on the US ebay site as well that you can purchase from, but obviously the selections are more limited.

As for fitting it, just remove the screws, remove the old plate, replace with new one, and replace the screws. No problem!

:D
