From where I sit it would be both. It's an OLP neck with a very legit EBMM logo on it.

Ok, let's say the dude sells it and whoever buys it comes here and posts the serial number. Then an EBMM employee has to break the bad news and the person that thinks he/she just got a great deal on an EVH is bummin huge.

Right, if someone buys that guitar, the headstock with the EBMM/Music Man stickers makes it look genuine when it is not. It is a counterfeit. '

Anyway the listings have been TERMINATED. :cool:
 
Thanks for finally explaining what was happening -- with the pics/ads being removed, it was hard to tell what was going on.

Sure. The seller was posting OLP guitars with bodies he modified or fabricated, and they had the Ernie Ball Music Man logo on the headstock. So they were copy guitars appearing to be genuine EBMM's. Counterfeits.
 
well before i bought my EBMM EVH red quilt a week ago, i had a OLP stripped like a 5150.. with no logo on.. and im planing to let it go as i now have the original (my new baby).. so, with NO logo its ok then right? and oddly it wont say ebmm or musicman just OLP stripped EVH style.. thats illegal to? i know the stripes are ilegal because of the frankentrat art-work that ed's lawyers always check on them.. but there is no issues with EBMM right?

Does the neck plate or back of headstock indicate it is an OLP?
 
The neckplate says OLP, and it will say the same on the title and description.. the neck was completely sanded off when i installed the floyd nut, it has no decals on it.
 
Dude, you should be all set then. As long as you are not trying to pass off an OLP as an EBMM and you point out that it's an OLP things are cool. It isn't cool when buyers get fooled because an OLP has been listed and written up as an EBMM. Not only does that hurt the buyer, but it hurts EBMM to have a fake EBMM out there.

Yeah, sorry on that one - I expected this thread to drift into the sunset.

My original post concerned one of those "stripey looking EVH guitars"
-sorry EVH fans you may want to enlighten me on what they were called - looked like strips of insulation tape, masking tape stuck in a strictly random order ;)

If my memory (Shoot it's bad) is right ,the guitar in question had an OLP neck that had the headstock refinished to look like a genuine EB headstock with genuine looking decals.

For all intents and purposes it was masquerading as an EB MM guitar.
It only had a couple of hours to run when I spotted it, but felt it best to report it to WD.

That sounds fine because it is identified as an OLP, and not as an EBMM. If it had no OLP neckplate or identifier, then there might be a problem because Ernie Ball has a registered trademark in the 3 plus 2 headstock shape and design.
