Y2D clips; what else by Morse?

Man, I just watched the Y2D clips. Man, Morse is just astonishing. I'd never seen him play before. I don't know. For some reason it's just more impressive to watch him. I haven't really ever gotten into any of his recorded work. haven't really heard that much of his stuff admittedly. Where should I start? To get an idea of what I like, well...look at my avatar. I don't listen to much else these days unless it's DT- or JP-related.

I started with "Southern Steel."

it's a little late 80's-ish, but I feel like it's a nice mid-point go look backwards and forwards in his catalog.

All Steve Morse Band recordings are superb, but my fav' is "High Tension Wires" !

Some here have been listening to and seeing this guy for 25 years, and watching him play always gives you goosebumps.

If you wanna watch him, there's a DVD out called Sects dregs and rock and roll. Not all the audio on this is of pristine quality, some pretty bad actually...but there's about a 10 song section that steve does as duets with dave larue on bass that's worth the price of the dvd alone. And there's also a cool section where he's being interviewed and plays a few different riffs, including a section of his timeless masterpiece NIGHT MEETS LIGHT that has a really beautiful and tricky to play melody (rewind button!)

If you wanna catch him live, he usually plays 1/2 a dozen dates in CA around the Jan NAMM show.

And pretty much any of his recordings will get you wanting more.

I also started with Southern Steel and followed it up with Coast to Coast. (Lots of good heavy stuff in there that appealed to me.)

I have Southern Steel and Coast To Coast in the cassette version (great road tunes ) but the tapes are pretty-much worn out.

I haven't had much luck turning up replacements on CD - Amazon.com only has used ones from time to time. Anyone know of a source for new copies of these (plus High Tension Wires)? Should we petition MCA to either re-release them or sell them back to Steve so he can get someone else to reissue them?

Personally, I like the Steve Morse Band album, "The Introduction".

The song "The Introduction" is also one of my favorites.

So, I think "The Introduction" would be a good introduction to Morse.

A guitar player I worked with in the late 70s brought me some Dregs stuff to listen to and I ignored it for a week or two - I am from Mississippi, was pretty much required by law to play "southern" rock during my youth, and the "Dixie Dregs" name made me think it was more beer-soaked Allman Bros derivate stuff.

Hah hah.

This was 1977, and the album was "Free Fall".

Imagine my surprise.

So if I were going to go back and really figure out what Morse and Company were all about, I'd start there.

Here we are nearly thirty years later and that album still kicks my butt.

Cool story.

Was driving on a dirt road in Lake Tahoe about 10 years ago on my way to a hike. No other cars on it the whole way except one coming towards me with windows open and music blaring.

What music? SLEEP from Free Fall! Probably my fave off that album.
