I recently visited a local music store in the bay area(SF) and asked the owner behind the counter what he used to clean his fretboards. Without hesitation he said that he used lighter fluid...
I had never really thought of using lighter fluid nor will I until I know for sure whether or not it works. Maybe it does but just thinking about it raises doubts and fumes with which to get high. I've also been told just use water and wipe it down, use the dunlop gun stock oil, or just stick with the usual lemon oil. Until now I've been using the lemon oil and it works moderatley well. Anyone know about this lighter fluid thing?

Lighter fluid contains naptha, and that is what cleans grunge off. I have used it before with great results...Just be careful! and soak whatever paper towel or rag you use in water before throwing it away..Safety first;)

Serious? So I can just jack two or three little plastic lighters from some restaurant and use those?

How would you rate its effectiveness over things such as lemon oil and stock gun oil? Are there any drawbacks?

You better watch out if you're going to be playing with Great White in the future. You remember what happened in RI.....

Its not the butane type fluid...Its like what you would put in a Zippo lighter
