One-offs, custom shop, and last but not least.... SPARKLES! :D

Teaser shots of my new JP7 in Molten Gemstone. This is a triple color-shifting paint that goes from a ruby/copper to a gold, and then emerald green. When you hit it with a camera flash, the color becomes translucent (down to the black base) and leaves behind glowing crystals in ruby red and emerald green. Oh yeah, it also sparkles.

I prepped the body and headstock last week and applied 2 base-coats of black at my buddy's shop, then we applied 8 coats of color. Today we applied 3 coats of clear. Saturday or Sunday will be the buffing day, followed by re-assembly and then the final pics.

For now, some shots of the headstock to tide you over.

(sorry this one is blurry)

Yes these pics are all of the same guitar, just taken at different angles and lighting levels. Yes the color really does shift this much.

Hey Sterling,
Does this void my warranty?

did you remove the old finish? Or just go over the top?

and was this a guitar whose finish was damaged in some way, or just decided to give it a whirl on a fresh jp7?

This guitar was smashed by UPS while in transit to a customer. I was able to retain the carcass, and then the surgery began. I did not strip all of the old paint completely off, but I did remove a lot of it to get a smooth/uniform base.

Here's a "before" shot... from this thread - http://www.ernieball.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12477

Nice! :D Although the three tone element reminds me somewhat of all the idiot wannabe boy racers round my part, with their pimped up rides. ;)
