I don't expect most of you guys to know this, but my wife refers to all of you as my 'imaginary friends'. She looks upon this exercise with the tiniest amount of....well, let's call it 'disdain'.

She is still stunned when I say, "Oh, so and so is coming over" and she says "How do you know this person?" and I say "From the forum."

She suspects you're all axe murderers, at least until you show up, at which point she becomes the most socially graceful animal on earth. She's a peach, really, but this whole internet thing worries her.

Sterling is no exception. She's terrifically equal-opportunity.

The phone rings, she answers, it's Biff, and she still likes to believe he's an imaginary friend. BP eggs her on, of course, by saying, "Hi, Erika, this is Sterling Ball, one of Jack's imaginary friends....."

She's not at all interested in basses. Tonight, I said, "You want to see the new models?" She said, "Do you want to see some Gucci bags?"

So I have to admit that I'm a little perplexed. Tonight, we're talking about I don't know what and, out of nowhere, she says, "I'd like to get drunk with Sterling."

Huh?

I said, "Well, he'd no doubt entertain that possibility, and you'd really like him."

She said, "You really get to know people when you drink with them, and that's what I'd like to do. Drink with Sterling."

I made some noises like, well, I'm sure he'd like you, you'd like him, we could find a time when Sterling's not so busy and fly out to the desert or meet him in SLO, but she was done with the conversation and wandered off.

Biff - even as an imaginary friend, still a chick magnet.

Open House, I'm in.

Bass Fest at Camp Bovine, well, it's really better if she's in another hemisphere.

I will say that once you become 'real', she'll go out of her way to make sure you're fed and watered properly and, if you've been drinking, she'll make sure the guest room is absolutely comfy.

She really does put up with a lot.

For example:

John, aka bottomdweller, showed up here in December, another 'imaginary friend' and we proceeded to spend a couple of days in the Scream Parlour, fondling basses and so on. But once we settled down, she was more than willing to teach him to dance salsa.

So now John is one of her favorite people, even though he was 'imaginary' for the longest time and, in reality, a lawyer.

My wife. She's odd, but I like her.

Ah! So really, calling us 'imaginary' is just a ruse on her part to get people to visit The Camp?

BTW ~ Dancing scares the sh*t out of me...I'll need plenty of liquid motivation!

Lets see if Erica can keep up with us! I have just put about thirty to bed some with diapers some are just praying that they wont feel too bad tommorow.

At camp bovine do I have a private bathroom along with the bed?

If I bring Lucious?..........oh god1 he was here tonight

I think Luscious would confirm her darkest fears, so I am always in favor of that.

Seriously? We need to get you and Erika together. She's something else.

And you always get a private bathroom at Camp Bovine, although it might have a slight "Sponge Bob" theme going.

Even I think I am imaginary. Apart from that I am the only one who is not an individule. My personality test(s) showed we're all OK

Well, then he should feel right at home. :D

The first time my friend Dave from Talkbass came over, my girlfriend locked herself in the bedroom with a claw hammer in case he was a serial killer (turns out he's just a cereal killer). I guess you can take the girl out of Brooklyn, but you can't take the Brooklyn out of the girl....

You know, I suppose that's funny because I'm more worried about hanging out with local bassists (or rather, guys who see me carrying around my bass and say, "Hey, I play bass, we should get together.") I've gotten together with TBers before just to hang out, fondle basses, and watch football. In the end, I suppose I trust you guys. Scary.

Good Vibes...

Funny stuff...

My wife had similar concerns when I headed off to the the Open House alone and shared my ride from the airport "with a stranger"...

I love the way the Open House has spawned smaller, regional gatherings.

Bringing the imaginary friends into the home is a big step towards making it all a reality for our significant others! :)

I've rendezvoused with guys I met at gun forums and gone shooting with them with my wife in tow. Do bassists show up with AKs?

LOL!!!! :p
You're not alone!
My wife if really cool for the most part but this subject is funny!
Just before Christmas a fellow forumite was going to be potentially travelling to my area where we could hook up. My wife's response was "these are not your friends! You know nothing about these people. Meet them at a bar or something. They're not coming here!" :D
Truth is that I now know some you better than my own family members! ;)

You know, the funny thing in regards to the 'imaginary friend' comment is that people here do speak their minds a lot more freely than they would in a face-to-face first meeting ~ because you're in the comfort zone of your own environment.

I think that's why so many of us are willing to go meet each other publicly, with a lot less apprehension; we've already gotten familiar with each other...having already battled in some cases.

A very good observation indeed. However as Golan said, it's hard to read people over the internet. I'd gladly meet face to face....I look at the eyes, everything else is irelevant, IMO.

A while back, when Jackson on I were working on a small project, my wife looked at the caller ID, and said, "Who the hell keeps calling you from Texas?" I told her that although I'd really like to say it was a Peruvian Hottie, it was actually an eyebrowless retired military guy, who was giving me money, so don't ask any more questions.
That ended that whole conversation.

Well, that's just it. She doesn't really spend any time in forums, so it wasn't like someone was just emailing me and saying, "Hey--you live in the same city--can I come over to your house?"
