I don't expect most of you guys to know this, but my wife refers to all of you as my 'imaginary friends'. She looks upon this exercise with the tiniest amount of....well, let's call it 'disdain'.
She is still stunned when I say, "Oh, so and so is coming over" and she says "How do you know this person?" and I say "From the forum."
She suspects you're all axe murderers, at least until you show up, at which point she becomes the most socially graceful animal on earth. She's a peach, really, but this whole internet thing worries her.
Sterling is no exception. She's terrifically equal-opportunity.
The phone rings, she answers, it's Biff, and she still likes to believe he's an imaginary friend. BP eggs her on, of course, by saying, "Hi, Erika, this is Sterling Ball, one of Jack's imaginary friends....."
She's not at all interested in basses. Tonight, I said, "You want to see the new models?" She said, "Do you want to see some Gucci bags?"
So I have to admit that I'm a little perplexed. Tonight, we're talking about I don't know what and, out of nowhere, she says, "I'd like to get drunk with Sterling."
Huh?
I said, "Well, he'd no doubt entertain that possibility, and you'd really like him."
She said, "You really get to know people when you drink with them, and that's what I'd like to do. Drink with Sterling."
I made some noises like, well, I'm sure he'd like you, you'd like him, we could find a time when Sterling's not so busy and fly out to the desert or meet him in SLO, but she was done with the conversation and wandered off.
Biff - even as an imaginary friend, still a chick magnet.
