Shonna Tucker, bass player for Drive-By Truckers, demonstrates the proper technique for cooking up some fried chicken and applying the grease to your strings to get some funk in there.

I do my best to keep grease off my guitars an off the strings!! , at least take them off the guitar first before trying a wacky home remedy, !!??
She should try the coated strings next if don't like that "new nickle" vibe
Chicken looked good though :D

I think I cried a little when she squeezed the chicken leg over the bass and the crumbs went onto the body.

 Oh my God!

I have fetish of dry and washed hands before touching my bass, so this is for me absolutely insane! :(

P.S. ...of course I've heard that Jaco (R.I.P.) used to grease his fretless Jazz Bass strings with chicken grease for "faster" playing, but this is crazy!

I always make sure my hands are clean and dry before playing and keep a clean towel handy when playing. I wipe down my strings every time after playing. I am not sure that she just didn't do that for "shtick" in her cooking show.

Anyway, to each their own. That is why I don't let strangers play my instruments. You don't know what their level of respect for your instrument is. If she came up to try playing my bass, I'd keep her back with my strap like a lion tamer :)

She's right when she say's "that's nasty funky, I love funk". That's gotta be the worst thing i've ever seen anyone do to their instrument.

Girl after my own heart..Play it hard and put it away wet.

I prefer flatwounds, but lets face it fellas, grease does keep the funk in.

And she makes fried chicken just like I do. Good old pan fried
