I'm selling my Kramer 5150 and i'm planing to buy a Luke. But i'm not still decided which version... I love the Luke1 design in pearl red or blue and its licensed Floyd Rose (like on my EVH). But a lot of people prefer the 1.
So which one is best for you?

I don't know which is "best" for me, though I suppose I'd like to find a Luke 1 to try one day... Since they are no longer in production, just getting your hands on one would be a neat trick. They don't even show up on E(vil)bay than often...

american music stores and their customers just don't appreciate decent equipment enough. I was just in Tokyo and I can think of 3 music stores that had a wide swath of MM guitars - one had Luke 1's and 2's hanging next to each other. so for a several grand and 3 days travel tile - round trip - you can go test them side by side... no big deal. :)

There are only very subtle tonal differences, and many of those could be that Luke 1s woods have aged more. It's not even as noticeable as the difference between an Axis and Axis SS though. However, I love the Wilkinson bridge on the Luke 2. It's a world away from the sheer hastle of the Floyd on a Luke 1 (or any other similar equipped guitar).

But i'll own a Luke 1 some day...and hopefully a Lukather VA Custom Pro.

I've heard this debate before. General consensus is that the Luke 2 models have better tone because they don't have the floyd, but my brothers Luke sounds sweet and I personally like the simplicity of just one volume and no tone - less to go wrong. It would be a lot easier to pick up a Luke 2 and you would have the choice of what colours/options (gotta have a piezo bridge) etc, wheras you would just have to hope you find a second hand Luke1 that you like :)

Actually i prefer a hundred times the Luke1 design. Isn't the pearl red color beautiful?

For me, even though I don't like changing strings on a floyd, I personally prefer the Luke 1 - it is a real solid guitar and the neck pickup is a cracker - loud it is creamy like a Les Paul, cleaned up it sounds almost acoustic. The only downside is they can be hard to find
