Welcome to Day 8 of my annual New Year's New Guitar Days (NYNGD)!

Thanks for the kind words and comments on NYNGD #2018-7! Getting warmed up now!

Today's guitar is an Axis BFR with a stunning Black Burst quilt top. Just a lovely guitar. The rosewood fretboard is awesome, the birdseye maple neck is great, beautiful top in a beautiful color. What's not to love! The crowning feature is the sorely missed 12th fret Ball Family Reserve inlay -- we MUST petition EBMM to bring this back on the BFRs. Anyone who doesn't like it... talk to the hand.

You'll notice that this guy has an EVH D-Tuna installed. It came that way from the previous owner, and while I usually ditch the D-Tunas and revert to stock, this one is setup well and works pretty effectively so I left it on for some Drop-D goodness. I typically just leave the low-E fine tuner cranked 98% down when tuned to E and then I can just back off the fine tuner a bunch to downtune to D, but the D-Tuna works well on this one so I left it.

Haven't recorded or gigged with this guy yet.

I'll be back tomorrow-ish with another NYNGD: New Year's New Guitar Day! Thanks for looking everyone!

(The back story in case you're new to my NYNGD: For the past couple of years I've done a fun thing that most of you I think enjoyed, and I thought I would do it again this year. Every year, I am a slacker about keeping my Guitar Gallery up to date... So, as a fun holiday thing, let's launch a guitar in the Guitar Gallery each day leading up to New Years Eve! In the past I've received PM's about my collection and whether I play all of these guitars. :) The same question came up during my NYNGD posts a few years ago and my answer was pretty detailed and well thought-out, so please check it out here!)

(Also, in case anybody gets any funny ideas -- these guitars are not at my house. They are all in my very secure and alarmed studio facility. I usually only have two guitars floating around the house...)

Jeff, nice man, I still love that BFR logo and wished that was an option, but maybe sometime you never know.

Great neck by the way.

Congrats on day 8, Glenn |B)

Another awesome one. I agree on the BFR logo, too.

I've toyed with the idea of a D-Tuna on my Axis, but I hear a lot of bad things about them, so I just use my ASS when it's time to go to D.
