Hi, and thanx for your great work with this database thread.

I just bought an SR5 #E07483 from Guitar Center in Waco, TX. They shipped it to my local store and I picked it up today. The DOM wasn't advertised, but when I asked the salesman in Waco about its age, he said he "thought it was made around 2014 or so". So imagine my surprise when I removed the neck to clean some grunge from the neck pocket gap (I was getting suspicious by now) and saw "3-xx-1999"!

Oh, well. I believe I got a decent deal, I could return it within 14 days, but I've had great luck with older Stingrays, so I'm pretty sure I'll keep it. I do love the ceramic pups and the 3-band preamps in these, so I'm looking forward to enjoying this bass.

Edit: Good news and bad news...

First the bad news: it needs a fret dressing, maybe even a fret replacement job. And the nut looks to be a badly-done replacement that need to be replaced as well.

The good news: the bass sounds friggin AMAZING! I'm happy. I'll deal with the problems. After a polite, but stern email to a young salesman who needs to thank his lucky stars that I'm and old and understanding kinda guy...

Thank for any info...

Hi guys! Looking for a build date on my Sting Ray B025847. Thanks for checking!

This one isn't coming up in the database. It's possible that it's a pre Ernie Ball StingRay. The serial number database didn't come around until the late 1980s after Ernie Ball took over the company so we don't have the production number records on those unfortunately. There is generally a date stamp in the neck pocket or pickup cavity that will give you an idea of the production time. There is also a great reference website where you can compare to similar serial numbers, http://musicmanbass.org/mycustompage0052.htm.
