I posted a reply to this thread
http://www.ernieball.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15607

and thought to myself "is there a better way to show the profile?"

So I got out a profile guage (used for copying wierd profiles/shapes on ceramic tiles) and gingerly took the profile at three different spots on the neck:-
Nut - 41 mm wide
5 th fret 46 mm wide
12 th fret 51 mm wide

Edit Aug '06...
I have just measured the thickness of the neck (very carefully as I couldn't find my plastic vernier guage - I had to use a metal one  )

The thickness (Girth) of the neck at the nut and 5th fret is 22mm and the 12 fret is a "gnats gonad" more - seems like 22.5 mm.

Hope this photo and info helps people to understand the profile and shape of the neck.

Excellent info Spud

Although you do realize you will now be charged with purchasing one of every MusicMan model and providing a neck cross-section analysis :p

I think you need to UPS those fine instruments of yours to me, so I can do a critical analysis and comparison of the profiles. ;)

Lucidology - that will be a nice AL.

I just ordered mine a couple of weeks ago, so I'm looking at a likely September/October delivery of this:

Haha, I think it just the nature of the beast so to speak. I'd rather wait a little longer knowing the EBMM master craftsmen are working to make sure all of the instruments leaving the facility are of the utmost quality. The "I need it yesterday" thought process, that we all fall victim to, was probably the toughest thing to get over.

Although the wait can be rough, you know most of the enthusiasts on this forum are here for support:eek: and to post pics of there gorgeous AL's just to keep folks like you and me drooling. To tell the truth it wasn't really that bad considering the AL I ordered was made for me and it will no doubt be incredible.

The worst part is right now knowing that my AL is on it's way. I'm so psyched I may stake out the UPS truck and covertly wait outside the store until he arrives on Monday.

During my wait I spent the time learning some Albert Lee stuff and then started checking out his influences which ended up opening my eyes and ears to an entire different genre of amazing guitarists. I've heard of Chet Atkins before but never really searched out his music and it was totally worth it. Growing up in the 80's I was weaned on the standard hair shredders from that era. Now, to go back and listen to cats like Cliff Gallup and Mr. Atkins is totally mind blowing.

Oh well, time to go and work on Albert Lee's T-Bird to Vegas some more :D :D

Hey 'ology
Thats great that I could be of some help - the templates were cut out a little "rough & ready" but I'm glad it gave you an insight into the profile.

I'd love to see an axis profile - anybody out there ?

I love the look of your ordered AL - make sure you post plenty of photos when you get it.

Waiting for the AL hurts sometimes (it did with me!) but it'll be worth the wait.

Looking forward to seeing Pug's on Monday - but shoot -I'll be away working
I'll try an get an internet connection in the Hotel.

Agreed! I'm excited mine is being made just for me, too! It does make the wait less intolerable. :D

Good ideas - I'll need something to tide me over, I just came from the store and the expected delivery date has been pushed back to August 25th. I'll just have to beat the snot out of my JP's middle position in anticipation! :D

Why not put some miles on that PRS Navarro model? That is one beautiful guitar. I probably asked you this before, but just in case......how does it sound and feel ?

Actually - it's phenomenal. And I'm being serious. This is one amazing sounding guitar. It's more smooth sounding (think traditional LP tone) than an Axis, but covers a whole lot of the same gound. Of course, it has a 3-way toggle and the tone pot is push pull - so you get some very nice SC sounds as well. Better than when I had installed a push/pull in my Axis (probably because the Navarro is designed to do that and the Axis isn't). And it plays so smoothly. And the finish work - right up there in top notch quality with EBMM for sure. It's the one I always reach for first right now (sorry swirly JP), at least until the AL arrives!

An interesting note though - I went and saw The Panic Channel here on the 1st, and first of all - what an awesome band! I had no idea who Chris Chaney was before the show, but I certainly do now - that guy is a monster on the bass. Just wow!!

Anyways, some of the guitars Dave was using (2 of the three of them) had been fitted with 5 ways instead of the 3 way/push/pull tone config that comes standard on his model. I just thought that was curious. He seemed to really only use the bridge pickup in humbucker mode most of the time anyway.

But I digress (BUT - if you get a chance GO SEE The Panic Channel - awesome show!). Excellent guitar and looks gorgeous. Certainly tiding me over until AL arrives. :)
