Convince Me Not To Sell My Sterling!

The MM Sterling is probably the most perfect bass I've ever played/owned.

Now, I bought the 2006 LE Sterling because it was the only single pickup Sterling in the shop, and I had to get a new bass that day (long story, don't ask).

Anyway, I thought it looked nice when I bought it. But now I'm starting to get bored with the look. It's not the gold, I love the gold hardware. It's the black/rosewood look. It doesn't exactly jump out at the audience when you're on stage. Maybe this is a phase or something, and I'll grow to like it in time.

Anyway, I can sell it to a music store, plus pay four hundred dollars-ish to by a Sterling in a different colour. Or I can just deal with it. Bah, I'm just sorta ranting, because I've been obsessing over this lately. I realize it's totally superficial. Just... reassure me or something. I don't know.

Sell it to someone on the forum or TB or ebay for a better price than what the shop would give you. For a LTD you should be able to get enough money to buy a normal sterling.

You should be happy with your bass. I've gotten rid of basses because I didn't like the color. It feels a bit silly but I had one bass that every time I pulled it from the case I thought "Yuck". Pretty soon I didn't pull it out of the case anymore, even though it played great. I sold it and found another I liked better. No shame it that!

hmmm. if you're getting another Sterling to replace it then i think its ok and becomes a question of how much of a hit youre ok with taking on it. being out $400 is too rich for my blood.

if it were me and i could trade it in + about $200 then id go for it. ive actually had a hard time wanting to play an instrument 100% based on its color scheme so i understand your desire.

I also think that selling it at another place other than to a music store will bring in more money.

$400 is a lot to lose.

Before losing $400, I would rather save $400 more and get a used Sterling on eBay in a different color!

Personally, I think gold hardware looks best on black/rosewood. White is a close second. A lot of folks don't like gold hardware. Personally, if all of my basses had gold hardware, I wouldn't mind. Chrome is a bit boring, IMHO.

I say keep it. Very cool looking Sterling.

Don't trade it in; sell it here or on one of the boards and you won't take such a hit. I inquired recently about swapping a bass in at a shop for a new EB/MM and my "hit" would have been around $700. Needless to say THAT ain't happening....

+1 on the tort pickguard. I'm trying to find one for a black Sterling as well.....

LOL David! I don't know if you remember Gregg/Frankensteinberger but I really miss the days when he was on ebay constantly. I pulled some awesome basses from the stream that flowed in and usually back out his door. It's better for him to be focusing on other things but I have to work harder now.
