someone told me that bongos are made in korea, is that true?

Yes it is. And Stingrays are made in Antwerp. Also, Sterlings are currently produced at the south pole and are 100% flipper built by some very happpy penguins:D

Oh, c'mon guys. Don't confuse the poor chap.

If by Korea you mean San Luis Obispo, California in the good old US of A then yes, they are made in Korea.

Welcome to the forum gee_kanit. You have no doubt gathered from the mostly 'creative' replies to your question that Bongos are not built in Korea. Thank goodness some give straight answers to straight questions.:)

well, you see guys, im lookin to buy my first bass and i've an opportunity to pick up a bongo 4H. The thing is that for the few bass guitarists i know (accoplished as they are) none can tell me much about these bongos. So, after spending about 20 hours on line (and the 500meg of internet account myplan allows), reading every article in these MM guitar threads and often trying to figure out WTH you bass freaks are punchin keys about, i had to resort to this to find out whether they're actually all made in the states.
Now, if someone could tell me what the price difference would generally be between a H & HH, i'd be quite greatful.
Thanks guys, i'll be sending some of you Wonka Bars and for others, there'll be Everlasting Gob Stoppers...

Yes, they're made in Kalifournia. In this highly secured facility:

I just checked, they’re made in SLO, USA… says so right on the back of the headstock.

gee-kanit, welcome to the forum, I see you’ve already met some of the suspects…, um, members here. Make yourself at home and have fun here.

I’m going to China in August; I expect to see some American basses being made there, but not EBMM’s. :D

Until someone with real knowledge responds, let me say that I think the price difference between Single H and Double H is around $100 MSRP. I could be wrong because it has been 4 or 5 months since I priced a Bongo, but I don't think I'm off by more than $50. And remember, I'm talking MSRP pricing here which is generally higher than the 'street' price that you can usually get. (Forum rules prohibit posting 'street prices' on new MM instruments to keep things fair for dealers.)

yeah ok... dribbling over. pffft!

Having recently purchased a Bongo 4H in Egyptian Smoke i spent a huge amount of time reading around the web as you've done and discussing with my band pals etc.

I too was confronted with a "oooh, made in korea/japan/china are they col?"

to which i lovingly replied, "no they're f**kin not!"

on price difference, i found that you can pick up the 4HH for the same price as 4H if you shop around so it really comes down to which one you decide you want the most

now, i went for the H having discussed it with the great guys on here, but that was down to what would suit me the best.

4H - bags of punch, growl, tone... great sound, great feel, great quality but i decided the lack of a great big extra humbucker would allow me to be free-er with my right hand (slappy slappy slappy :D ) - you could probably destroy the moon with a 4H

4HH - as above but with the power to destroy the moon, mars, saturn and 84,877 shopping trolleys (with a little less right hand room for bezerk stupidity)

hope this helps!! not sure if you even asked for that advice but i looooove Bongo's!!!!!
