At noon today, my fiancee and I officially became homeowners. It's the first house for both of us. Heck--it'll be the first house my fiancee has ever even lived in (grew up in Brooklyn and Queens).

It's not the biggest thing in the world, but it's a nice 3 bedroom, 2 bath, so I get my own music room, which means Musicman Bongos hanging on the walls. I had to give up the slightly larger spare bedroom for her office/guest room, but in the compromise, I was able to go from a 46" 720p HDTV to a 50" 1080p HDTV, so I'm perfectly fine with that....

This means no new Musicman basses this year after the Dargie Delight arrives unless I get a lot more gigs than last year (a definite possibility considerin that we moved back to Atlanta from the 'burbs). But, I think it'll be worth it.

Just thought I'd share. :D

Congratulations. I've been "shopping" for over a year, but here in Long Island NY, a $200,000 house costs $400,000 !!!???

Thanks, everyone. I can't wait to turn up my amp and play my Bongo without having to worry about annoying the downstairs neighbor, or the nice old lady across the hall.

It ain't much, but it's mine.

Imagine these walls with Bongos on them.

At one point, we thought about moving to New York after she finished law school. We were planning on looking at Long Island. We love going to visit her friend who has a condo at the beach.

We looked at about 30 houses, and this was the third house we put an offer on. I really don't want to go through that in the near future.

Good luck finding something. We knew immediately we wanted this house, and I like this the most of the three offers, too.

Atlanta weather yesterday: 69 and sunny
Atlanta weather today: 38 and windy

Don't say it ain't much, that's a very nice first house. More than I can afford around here...and I have a good job. I don't know what price you paid, but for $270,000 - $300,00 I can get 1/2 of your house here....and the property taxes would be $2500 - $4000 !

Congrats! houses are money pits but way better than pissing away rent.
(that's what I keep telling myself). Appears you're getting in at the right
time if the market has softened like it did here.

NJ prices are also insane . .
I have a lovely little town next to me were you can't even get a 2BR cape for
$500k, & taxes over 10k. I can't even stand up straight on the 2nd floor!

Congrats Jason! Moving sucks, but moving into your first house is very cool. Where in Atlanta is it?

BTW, I never appreciated how relatively affordable housing was in Atlanta until I moved to Northern Virginia.

Bassmonkee, many congrats :) We hope to join the ranks of homeowners sometime soon, but anyone who knows about prices in the UK can tell you that they've doubled in the last few years - so it's gonna be hard work, but will all be worth it in the end. At the mo I'd have to pay upwards of £100k for a smallish 2 bed flat in a decent area (so $200k plus). I keep kicking myself for not being old enough to get a mortgage when prices were more reasonable ;)

Can't wait to see pics of that music room once it's all kitted out :) I think it all looks gorgeous :D

Congrats, man!! Looking good too, judging by the pics!

Home ownership is a big step,... one I'll have to take as well between now and about 16 months...

So I'm gonna be quick and get my order in for a 20th SR5, because it'll be no new basses for quite a while when househunting starts...

Congratulations Jason.

I just got my first house in 30 years last month (3bdr/2b) and like you I'm digging it. My own music room, playing bass at midnight and no complaints (yet). I'm at the end of a block so no houses on the left hand side, that's where the bass room is.

I've also learned how to change a kitchen faucet, how the pipes under the sink go together, I've repainted almost every room, Home Depot is my favorite store and HGTV is my new favorite channel.

I've got a lot of trees, a deck that spans one whole side of the house, I can't wait till summer.

Enjoy!

Almost forgot, I got a 2 car garage!! With the icy weather we've been having it's a godsend.

When I get out of college in a year, i'm going to buy a house. I'm looking at houses the size you bought. I'm sure glad I live in a small town in Indiana. A house that size cost about 80,000 here.
