Hi Everyone,

First post ;)

Anyway, I'm trying hard to decide which colour I should get for my JP...

I think I'm down to 3 choices...

White,
Graphite Pearl,
Sapphire Black...

I'd like to get Mystic Dream, but the $400 tack on for the finish is a bit much...

What do you guys think? Anyone have pictures of these colours?

By the way, whats all this talk about BFR? What does it stand for? and F-1? I'm kind of a newb here...

Jagged,

Ask our user Fogman about pictures of the various colors. He'll probably sweep in and post some for you, such is Fogman.

BFR = Ball Family Reserve a new line of 'different' versions of the EBMM guitars we know and love. The BFRs may include anything different that the gang feels like making, in whatever quantities they decide.

Right now they've just introduced the first few BFR instruments, BFR versions of:
* John Petrucci model (slightly tweaked shape called F-1 for "Formula One")
* Luke model
* 20th Anniversary Stingray5

The Petrucci F1 in the current BFR offering is different than the normal Petrucci in many ways. First, the BFR Pet is made from Alder I think, with a Mahogany tone block (an hourglass-shaped core portion of the guitar body from the neck pocket to the bridge is made of mahogany), and then the guitar has a figured maple top (either quilt or flame). So you've got three tonewoods in the body versus the normal JP which is simply basswood.

Next, the BFR Pet has a finished (i.e. painted) mahogany neck versus the 'unfinished' oiled + waxed maple neck of the normal JP.

The BFR Pet has a push/pull pot on one of the knobs which adds one additional pickup coil combination to the 'standard' ones.. the middle pickup position activates the two inner coils of the humbuckers like a normal JP, but the push/pull pot can then be pulled to turn on all 4 coils of the humbuckers.

The BFR Pet has the special "Ball Family Reserve" inlay at the 12th fret. It is only available with all of the Petrucci options.. piezo, matching headsotck, JP shield inlays. The only option thus far on a BFR Petrucci F1 is the color. You have a choice of 4 colors: Ruby burst, Walnut Burst, Bahama Blueburst, and Blackburst.

Also, I believe the lower horn is a bit longer than the normal JP model, and the 'scoop' on the front appears to be a little different.

Mystic Dream is really cool. It's a green/purple color shifting, pretty hard to get an idea of how awesome it looks through a picture.

Here are a couple pics of mine:

This pic is dull and blurry but shows the color shift a bit, the colors "pop" a lot harder in real life:

I have a mystic dream (not my fave color) that I came across used when I bought it. While it's cool, there are better choices out there IMO. If you're thinking of springing for it (mystic) check out the Blue Dawn Limited Edition package. The EB sparkles are much more striking than the Mystic.

In the colors you have listed as choices, I like the graphite pearl. The white is kinda blah.

Yeah, you know...I kinda sorta am thinking the same thing these days.

I got Pearl Red Burst, because I found a JP that I really liked, that just happened to be PRB. I, too, did not want to spring for the Mystic, the shield inlay, and the piezo at the time. I just wanted a bare bones JP6. The one I liked/could afford at the time was the PRB.

Then, I wanted a fully loaded JP6, including Mystic Dream, just for the sake of having a fully loaded one in Mystic Dream like JP's number one guitar for the past few years. Now, it's not really an issue for me to get the MD. Seeing such gorgeous examples as last year's limited edition with the glossy black finish and gold hardware, the Buttercream from the year before, the Blue Dawn for 2007, I don't really care about MD anymore. Of course, I love Egyptian Smoke and Graphite Pearl too, but for my fully loaded one, which will kind of assume the mantle (I hope) of my flagship JP, it would be sweet to get a limited edition one like this:

In your opinion :p . It is hard to get across how striking MD is in pics alone. When mine arrived at the shop the guy who ordered it was speechless about how good it looks in real life. The colour shift does more than just shift colour. It can create a sort of mirror effect in certain lights.

I personally have never been to struck on sparkle finishes but blue dawn does look really cool. And i love the way that Autumn burst finish looks if you can find pics for it.

The only reservations I have about the mystic dream colour is that I wonder if it will look a bit dated in years to come. And also, there are alot of them out there. It's almost like every other JP i hear about is mystic dream.

If you want a regular colour with no upcharge I like the darker ones shown in foggys post. And to be honest, I do like the black one JP uses on the Budokan DVD. The one with the natural headstock. Has all the sound and playability of a JP but its just sort of simple and refined looking.

Oh blimey, this is turning into the Mystic Dream backlash thread!:D

I currently have 4 JPs including a Mystic Dream. This is going to sound bizarre but whilst I like it, I find it slightly frustrating that it does change depending on the angle you view it from (which of course is the whole point). It's sort of schizophrenic, you can't ever pin down what it actually looks like!

I'm reliably informed that my sparkles (Black and Autumn Red) look best on stage if a little flashy!

Colour choice is almost impossible as there are so many. Best thing really is to collect them all like ernie1966!

I'm waiting for my Dargie next which looks like a really nice colour - then I'm holding out for a sunburst BFR.;)

Well jagged of course all the colors that EBMM offers are awesome....As the owner of 2 JP6 one in Black sparkle 03 model and Rad red 06 model those are 2 of my favorite colors....The LE blue dawn and the mystic dream are unbelivable, but if you are trying to cut cost go with the color that first draws your attention, and the ones you have choosen are all great colors...My choice would have been white, but that's just me.

fogman is awesome... the pictures are great, and they show a lot of the colours in different lights and areas... only problem is, the pictures don't help my choice much... I'm leaning towards the white, but people (friends and etc.) are telling me to go with the graphite pearl. While it looks awesome, I think its a little ordinary since so many other guitars come in that type of colour. It's true that the mystic dream looks amazing, but I'm not sure if I like the green/maroon thing too much....

Anyone ever seen an Aurora? That car has a similar chamelion like colour... and i think it looks crap..but then its a car..not a guitar...

For me, the darker colors (ie not any kind of white) look better on the contoured Music Mans. White is a great color for guitar if you have black hardware, and squared edges. It seems to diminish how cool Music Man's contoured tops really are.

MD is a different animal in person than in pics.... no doubt. It's fantastic in pics... it's even more so in person. However, MM exels in paint anyway... my DG changes colors almost in certain lights... sometimes it looks like a Yahoo IM smiley, and sometimes it looks like the General Lee. lol That's just because the layering of the paint causes the two colors that mix to make the orange (yellow and whatever the orangish base color is) to jump out in different light. A haphazard paintjob would not do this.

Maybe that's why white is always so dissappointing to me... it's just white. Most of the other MM colors are so much more rich.

I'll agree with that.. White is just white...

I guess I"ll have to find places that carry more than a few colours... that'll be difficult..
