Didn't want to say anything until a friend of mine was outbid, but there's an Earthwood on eBay as we speak.

Also, as we speak, the bidding is up at 2K.

Not many of these around.

I considered the thread up there, but this is just so rare that I decided to violate the rules and let the chips fall where they may!

the i hope they fall in the salsa,

Ok here is the real story.

This is a bass second that was put together and sold for not much money. It was the end of the factory and lets see what we can turn into money. we never sold or gave Zz top one but they could very well have bought one from a dealer. The oval around the logo and the lack of label was intentional. The bridge is one of the originals from the first run the neck is un bound which was on the starter one and the keys are the grovers and the first run ones were schallers. IT is still a good sounding one but leftovers for lack of better description

I would love to have one of the first run, which were deeper and rumored to sound better. I've only had my hands one one of the second run. They're the best ABG I've ever run across.

For what it's worth, I'm the guy who was out bid. It went from around $500 to over $2k really fast.

Oh well...

Yeah, I was in on the bidding, too. I feel a bit better after reading Sterling's post.:D

I was able to get my hands on another Earthwood. (w/label, etc. in place) However, it has a small, hairline crack. Is there anyone at Ernie Ball that does restoration work on these...Or does anyone know of a great place where I can take this to be done?
Thanks!!

there have been a few inquiries over the last few months in regards to the Earthwood.

Timothy B Schmit called and said he has two and is looking for another. U2 is supposedly looking to buy one.

It has been suggested that if we did a run we could fetch $4500 per instrument?

It would be great to see this bass come back, if only for a short period......
