We don't have elk around here, but we do have some deer.
Every now and then someone does have an accident and hit one.
Most times, the driver survives, but not always.
The vehicle is always a crushed tin fiol write off!

I just remembered it's the Shriners who drive those little cars in parades. I have actually been to an Elks lodge and played music. (the Elks might argue that it wasn't music) There was a guy named Shorty who was really short, but his nick name had more to do with his temper than his stature. I thought he hated me because I didn't play country until we talked and he told me he had been in a motorcycle, um, club for lack of a better word, back in my old hometown of Venice Ca. I knew several of his old buddies, and now we send Christmas cards to each other(not really) Everybody else was pretty much country. I did not fit in, but what the hey, look at what a great story this made, but I digress.

Sorry for the derail, but does anyone else think its important for the young bucks of the world (pardon the pun) to start becoming registered Elks, Eagles, Mooses, etc? My grampa's an Elk and has been for many years. Every time I go visit him we go to the Elks Lodge for lunch and dine on good, cheap homemade food, swill $1.50 rum & cokes and talk about everyone else's grandkids. It really is a good time. The Elks explained to me that the number of registered Elks is declining in recent years. I say its time for a coup d'etat -- who's with me???

Maybe if they turn on MTV and turn off Archie Bunker reruns on the bar TV, more young bucks might be more inclined to hang out there. But then that would run out the old timers. I used to humor my WW2 Vet father-in-law, playing darts for shots and beers at his VFW chapter, but it wasn't a place I'd hang in otherwise. I've played a fair share of VFW and Elks club gigs... yeehaw! I'll agree though that, in all, a great bunch of folks.

Well BettyJ, I don't know about what the Elks do.. but I've spent an evening or two without the TV.

I'm a past presiding officer in three fraternal organizations (two of which I presided over more than once). I'm currently the presiding officer of a fourth fraternal organization. I'm also a newly elected trustee for one of the aforementioned organizations. Lastly, I'm currently appointed to a Grand office for a fraternal organization.

I also belong to a local German club, where I go for lunch about once a week.
