Well I just spent some time typing this for the PM issue thread, but it got closed before I could post.

So here it is...... EBMM, feel free to close or delete after reading.

This thread is bullsh*t..... the PM'ing issue will never be resolved unless alternatives are created, or issues are remedied.

Personally, I can't see why anyone would want to PM BP anyway ?
(Dealers etc excepted)
I mean, WHAT questions are going to get asked ?...... it bewilders me!

As a business owner (in a very different field), I get needless calls every day...... just like taxes, it's an unavoidable part of the job...... no big deal.
I'll give civil responses, make it as short as possible, try and explain alternatives to reduce the occurrence....... I'll hang up, and shake my head sometimes..... then get on with the job.... I guarantee it takes a lot more time to do that than it does to empty a PM box....... I mean, really.......

SUGGESTION 1:

Petrucci Forums has a "Questions for John" section.

Why don't you make a sticky or section like that ?.
The fact that it's public would probably make posters think twice about crap topics & questions...... and Mods could filter unnecessary stuff ?
It also has a disclaimer that replies are not guaranteed.

SUGGESTION 2:

Rather than whinging about it, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
We share an office building with an IT / Web-apps Company....
I'm talking complex online banking....... secure timesheets..... the works. [I also cycle up to 500km a week with the directors, who are now very good friends]
They assure me it wouldn't be a big deal to code the forum to give privelage options....... simple.. then BP chooses who can/cannot PM him........ problem solved.

Rather than take part in the banter on BP's behalf, you EBMM employees would be better off doing something CONSTRUCTIVE and making a few calls to remedy what is obviously a flaw in the structure of the forum..... sure, it might cost a bit, but it'll fix the problem..... if cost is an issue, add $2 to every guitar you make

PS; I'd be happy to put you in contact with my Web-app buddies

RE the "questions for BP" suggestion...on the face of it, it seems good.

On the other hand, how many threads are there that say something along the lines of "BP, Help, My Knobs Are Dusty!" and being the good soul he is, he posts something like, "Well, dust 'em off, noob."

Regarding the app solution, as far as I can tell, that's the last option. The man wants to have his PMs available if he needs them. Personally, I don't see it working out in the end because people can't seem to resist.

So CodeMonkey and Chewie may have to get involved.

Dizz Please lets let it die.

I explained that it isnt just having to empty out a in box.
I would like to use the PM funtion but no longer can. I havent whined either..I exposed someone who tried to PM me 10 times in a night.

I just hope that in the future that I can sneak it back on and have people just resist the urge to be my new best friend.

PS what line of work are you in?

I was just about to PM Sterling and ask about viable alternatives regarding replacement engines for my dad's 94 Suburban with 292,000 miles on it. But now I won't.

He could buy the 1964 Chevy 1-ton dump truck sitting in my driveway...

Sorry, Steve, but I already have a DOA '79 1-ton, flatbed Ford that I have NO idea what to do with.

Hijack? Oh yeah!
