Hi,

Could you please tell me the DOB of the Stingray from a friend of mine?

3EQ, maple neck, black PG in Pearl Blue.

Serial#E34081

Thanks!

Sure, we are all friends here! Your buddy's bass was completed on 10/02/02 and was originally shipped to our distributor in Belgium.

Rock on -

Cool, Brian, this bass was completed on 1/04/99 and was originally shipped to Discount Music in Bountiful, Utah.

Birdseye was way more plentiful back in the day and we used it when we had it - now that everyone seems to want it, (not only guitar companies, but furniture and hardwood flooring companies) it is hard to find and we don't use it on the basses anymore.

Dan

Thanks for the info Dan. The neck is one of my favorite parts of this bass-- it just feels so good, you know? And it looks stunning. :D

Cheers,
BD

Eric,

That serial number shows your new bass as a StingRay 5 in Vintage Sunburst, rosewood board, black pickguard built on 08/28/06.

Hey, that's just a few days after I graduated. Thanks Dan. It is a SR5 is Sunburst with a rosewood. Are you able to tell me where it was shipped to, just out of curiosity?

Eric, after digging a little on this one, I found that we sent this one to our Italian distributor, Mogar Music. If you were to contact them, they may have a record of what store they sent it to.

Awesome thanks, right on the money. Last night I removed the protective plastic off the pickguard and there is a dull spot about the size of a half dollar just below the pickups. It looks like it missed getting polished or something. The plastic covering didn't look like anything would be wrong. What do you guys think, I'm sorta bummed out. Any suggestions?

Dead, you are correct, your bass was completed on 3/12/98 and was shipped to Royal Music Center in Brooklyn, NY. The warranty is still good! :D :D

Royal Music carries and sells so many of our instruments, they probably haven't "rotated" their stock - but not to worry - we still consider it new until it's sold to the end user (you!) Congratulations and welcome!

Dan

Dan,

I hate to be a pain, but could you give me the details on my bass please? I'm having trouble determining whether it is Tobacco or Vintage Sunburst. I'd also like to make sure the original neck is on it, since it's been hanging around for nearly ten years. I'm pretty sure it is, since it's a matching headstock, but ya never know!

Thanks!

Hey, Dead, I am wondering if we are referring to the same bass  The bass with the serial #E00345 lists as a Trans Teal built on 3/12/98 and we didn't even offer matching headstocks back then. But yours is a Burst? Hmmmm.... well I do know that we didn't even offer Tobacco Burst until 2002, so if it is before that it would have to be Honeyburst.

Could you recheck the serial number? :(

Absolutely, I'll check it as soon as I get home. It is the number on the neck plate, right?

It's definitely a burst, most likely vintage, matching headstock, fretless lined.

The mystery grows lol! This is the only pic I currently have of it:

Dan,

Would you be so kind to give me details on SR5, E18323?
I bought it in 2000 and curious when it was made and what info you have on it.

Thank you

Dan,

The number on the neck plate definitely says E00345. I took the neck off and here's what I found:

SR5-1.jpg

In the neck pocket, in handwritten marker it says "NAT", but that's crossed out and then it says "TRAN". It is also stamped "DEC 16, 2002"

On the neck itself, it says in handwritten ink "Jerron" or "Jernon", "Sunburst" and there are two "J's" stamped into the wood.

I guess somebody at Royal could have switched neckplates at some point? I can't imagine why....

I threw that third pic in there just because the bass is so gorgeous :D

The thumb rest was put on the day I got it, about an hour before a show. I'd like to find a tort one to match the pickguard, but for now, the last minute plain black had to do. If you guys have any tort scraps laying around, I'll gladly pay for a few to make a layered thumbrest out of ;)
