I'd die to get the tone of this guy at www.funkychops.com. Do you think I can't get this tone because I have a SR and he has a Sterling? Also there's sth interesting here. Did you note his bridge? He fitted a muted bridge.

Please can you tell me how to achieve this sound?

Does he think he's THAT good so that he deserves freebies from EB  ?
I don't think he's a good bassplayer. I just like his tone. Any tips?
Man, I should post MY slap samples!

My SR is exactly the same colour as his sterling. Even the pickgrd is black. Except I have a rosewood fingerboard and he's got maple.

"How does an Asian guy get so FUNKY?? GREAT CD, FAST SHIPPING!"

That is a great tag line. (straight from his website) :D

Never heard of the guy, I wonder if his teaching methods are good? I would like a fun and easy way to learn to slap. If anyone else has any good recomendations or tips on how to learn good slap technique, I would sure love to hear them.

Thanks guys.

I would stay far away from any "teacher" who poo-poos theory and goes so far as to call TAB boring.

I mean--the guy is too lazy to even use frikkin' TAB ?!?!?

I've just learn't slap, printed somelessons of harmony central and learnt from there. It's juts practice, a lot of practice as you soon lose the strength in you're hand once you stop

There is a slap bass DVD from Ed Friedland who does a great job of instruction.

I don't use tab... not sure that's because I'm lazy.

Just ears here....guess I'm lazy too, but have big ears.

I use the little black dots... I've only got four strings to choose from, it's usually fairly obvious which note to play.

unsure why a response to your original post was ignored

Mantaray,

I really don't think he's doing anything special to achieve this tone. Try setting your rig up so that you have a good amt. bass and treble place the mid on about 4 and then use the sweepable mid on your Ray to get this sort of tone. This shouldn't be too difficult.

Hope this helps,

Flywheel
