Hello AL players,
I've searched and read threads regarding the differences between the M90s and SSS ALs, but mainly need to know if you can get that (for lack of a better term) tele type, country "spank" from the M90s. If not, I'll go the SSS route.

Thanks

I can't comment on the 90's(yet!) but have heard from other forumites that you can get the spank and 'cos it's a 3 pickup set up the "quack" as well.
They are slightly hotter pickups too.
I'm waiting for the likes of "Pugninjas" or "robelinda2" to come on in here!

Its so much fun answering AL questions, GO THE AL!

Ok, anyone who's played an AL with MM90s would agree that they sound pretty much like single coils, but slightly beefier, but with ALL the twang you want and expect from single coils, you wont be disappointed my firend, trust me on this, they rock, and twang.

If you want the best single coil tone then go SSS, the bridge pickup sounds way country enough.

IMO, get both, i did. I think it took me 2 weeks to get my first 2 AL's- Blue SSS and Trans Orange MM90, LIFE IS SHORT PEOPLE!

Excellent.
Thanks guys. From the sounds of it, I should be able to get plenty of "spank", "quack", and "twang" and possibly a combination of the three ("squang?), from the M90s.
I gotta be honest with you though, it'd be really tough to pry either of these SMs out of my hands.

There is absolutely no loss of spank from the MM90's in an AL. In fact, I believe they are the hidden gem of the EBMM brand, amazing tones that can basically handle anything you might want to throw at them. Like mentioned by robelinda, they are tad bit meatier and also very responsive to tone knob adjustments.....plus three of those beauties just look so sexy together :D

Pug,

I just noticed your sig.
ALOC should make you an honorary life time member! Not retired.
I have not doubts that you'll be back in action soon enough. :)

So how long is probation anyways?

Thanks Fog,

I have been doing plenty as of late to see what my options are so........

On a side note, I must admit I'm surprised that you still have enough time to be on these forums with the gorgeous DD in house and your lovely wife chasing you around;) ;)

I'm still looking forward to recieving my first AL... It looks like it's gonna be here next Monday... (took some time in customs...)

Judging by the comments above, I'm gonna love the MM90's, can't go wrong...

Pug,

I'd really like to hear a recording of an SSS and an MM90, same player playing the same song through the same setup - who here has both? ;)

I own an Albert Lee Limited with the 3 90s, so I'm a bit biased. However, last summer we had Albert himself doing a clinic for us. He played a 3 single AL for a good portion of the night, then someone asked about the 3 X P90 version. Albert just picked it up and started playing. Same player and amp, just a guitar switch. Twang galore, and basically just "more" of everything. Made me happy as heck since I was still awaiting the arrival of mine, and there is certainly no finer a player/human being than Albert to show a guitars true colors. Get one!-Eric

Hey Spud! I've met so many names in the Music Biz in my career it's just silly, and yet it's funny how Albert stands out as one of the finest! I setup a guitar (an AL of course) for him and he was so kind and appreciative he signed the backplate of my Silo Special. Guess we've got to get him back for another clinic so I can another sig on the backplate of my Albert Limited...Eric

I have never actually played a AL before.... they never seem to carry any in the stores. From what I read, it can best be described in terms of Strat and/or Telecaster. Since I usually play blues-based hard rock, this is kind of the sound I am looking for.

Which would be better for a Hard-Rock-Blues sound Silo Spec with S-S-S, a standard AL, or an AL with MM90s? The Silo Spec I have is H-S-S which I love alot, but.... it doesn't quite get that single coil sound like the old Strat I used to have.

PS, don't get offended with all the Fender references. :) I am EBMM man these days, but I did cut my teeth on a Strat.
