Hi,

I've been lurking here for a good long while now and thought it was about time to introduce myself.

I'm another Brit Stingray nut, having treated myself to my dream bass, a trans teal S4 H, about 7 years ago when I hit 40 (bit of a mid life thing). Anyway, I've been waiting for a good excuse to post and, well, she arrived yesterday - a shiny new SR5HH!!! :D

At 47 I am finally a Compleat Man! I have 2 perfect Balls at last!!!

Now, I know you lot don't believe anything a newbie says until pics are posted as proof so I'm going to have a go here. Hang on a minute while I try this out...

This should be my Trans Teal Stingray 4 and my other mid-life consolation, The Mistress, my megawatt Ashdown rig. This 'Ray is called the "Left Ball" because she has been inadvertantly left behind (safely) in the US after my recent 3 years living there (don't ask, it's a long story):

If that worked then this should be my beautiful new Honeyburst 5 HH. This is my "Right Ball" because she's right here by my side as I type:

Sorry it's a bit dark, I'm not completely happy with the photo but I'll get some nice outdoor ones the next time the sun shines over here again in, say, 3 months or so. I have some close-ups but I can't seem to get them to load in from my myspace site at the moment.

She plays like a dream and the tone is subtly different to the 4. With the switch back there's the old Ray sound but I think my favourite is in the middle, which sounds fantastic when slapped, warm and zingy and bouncy. Just wonderful. A really great bass, so thanks to Sterling and to everyone who crafted her, she's a beaut. :)

Apologies for the long post but I've been waiting to share the 5 with you for a while and to say "ta!"

Cheers

GD

thanks

thanks all

you know, I thought my bass life was complete when I got the Ashdown and the TT Stingray...

...but then I had a yearning to learn fretless and was diverted to a Z*n I found when I lived in NJ, which is a thing of beauty by the way (err, the Z*n, but perhaps NJ also ;) ). The Z*n is a 5 and I got used to having that nice round bottom so I thought what I need was another Ball but with more strings so I started gassing for the Stingray 5 . Sadly this was after I got back to the UK (my '4 being 3k5 miles away so I was suffering severe angst and withdrawal) so I've paid a lot of hefty taxes on it to HM Government.

now I have an even bigger problem: reading this forum for the last few months has made me realise even 2 Balls are not enough. I saw the pics of Jacks 20th 5H and just couldn't believe it - I have to get one of those while I'm on this planet. More worryingly I think I may be turning Bongoloid, so I'll need one of those too (a 6???). But most of all I aint getting any younger and The Mistress seems to be putting on weight as she gets older, so now I'm thinking "Hmmm, those Markbass thingies might be just the ticket..."

I am lost, I am lost.... :D

lookin good! Welcome!

Cheers, BP. And thanks for the 'Ray 4 - I remember ("as if it were only a meal ago...") when I first picked one up and how it just sort of all fell into place immediately, I couldn't believe how natural it felt. It was an epiphany - I just sat in the shop and played and played and played... :)

Thanks for the GC videos as well - they were really useful and sold me on a honeyburst/rosewood 5HH!! And me being a maple-y neck person too. It's just got to be a black pickguard though... sorry all you tort-ologists :) Then the harmonics demo on the Bongo got me thinking...

HEy GD nice set up you got there. As a fellow Ashdown user (and a member of living on the margins of the UK - Norfolk here) don't ditch the Ashdown. She maybe putting on weight but she will never let you down. Yours looks almost as old as mine.

Enjoy the forum....
