well my pinkburst sounds amazing, but its also the perfect weight for me, nice and light. The Blue Dawn sounds great too, i dont use the silent circuit anyway, plus the rosewood board makes the smallest difference too, but the weight more so, it sounds much darker, but still has the AL tone. its very heavy!

- or maybe I have the wrong pickups !!!

I knew Beej would be along soon.

I had the same setup as you - colin should be able to verify, they're his pickups now. But I do distinctly remember the neck being an APS-3 (whatever that is), the middle being an APS-3 RWRP, and the bridge being an APS-2 BP (baseplate, natch).

I called CS this afternoon and Dan doesn't think the pickup swap should upset the Silent Circuit. I told him I'd put the pickups in and if it caught fire, I'd call him back.
Your move, but if it catches fire I'd put it out first before picking up the phone.

Should be fine with the SC, I've used it with other pickups as well.

anyone tried the Duncan pickup booster pedal on a SSS AL? Its only the lack of having a HB tone that keeps my AL from being my working guitar. However I just couldnt bring myself to lose the bridge and bridge/middle tones on the AL as it stands at the moment.they're the dogs danglies!

Norrin has tried it, swears by it, and posted a thread with sound clips a little while back. Search back and you should be able to find it.

I had a Seymour Duncan pickup booster until 2 hours ago!! - I sold it to my mate who
wanted it "so bad".
I sold it to him to purchase a BB preamp.
It cleanly boosted the pickups of the SSS, which would push the amp a bit more - it was just like turning the volume up with no distortion to the signal but pushed the tubes harder. I feel that the BB will do the same ... and more!
But I have to say that the SD Booster is a fine pedal!!

As much as I hate to disagree with a fellow ALOC member (and a superior at that!) the SD booster and the BB will not do the same thing. What's funny is that those 2 pedals are all I have left in my chain right now - and they actually compliment each other very well. As much as I dig the BB, it will never give you that HB tone that Duncan Pickup Booster will - ever. Whatever Duncan did with that resonance thingy - well - it's incredible!

And as far as the BB - well - I know where a lot of Timmons tone has come from - that pedal is musical & magical. I've never heard another like it. Just awesome!

So yeah - get the SD booster AND the BB - you will be set for some amazing tones!!!

:)

Here's a new link for that clip:

The playing is poor, but the tone is what I was going for. 2nd song. Enjoy!

Another very effect way to boost single coils while retaining clarity is the Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive. It lets you boost your amp's clean and mix it with the pedal's overdrive. If I were to get back into pedals, this would be (back) in the chain. Very useful for blues, country and funk especially. Check the samples, see what you think.

"Sparkle Drive" sounds like a device that blows glitter into the air behind Elton John's convertible Bentley.

I just ordered two Seymour Duncan Custom Flat SSL-6 single-coils for the neck and middle pickups on Tyler's Albert Lee. There is also a JB Jr. SJBJ-1 coming for the bridge pickup. We're stoked about this little experiment.

I'll post a follow-up when it's done.

The instrument has a pulse and all the controls work as they should. Tyler will put it though its paces tomorrow when there isn't a sleeping child in the house. Preliminary quiet goofing around on the amp here at the house suggests great results may be forthcoming after a little tweaking around and adjusting the pole pieces on the JB Jr.

This is neato! I did a pickup swap on a guitar, and it WORKED!
