So I hate to admit I got caught up in that whole discussion going on over at Talk Bass, but I did. And for some strange reason, I feel dirty now. That is a terrible forum, with no, IMHO, redeeming qualities. Many of the posters are rude, and quite frankly, I found nothing of interest.

My apologies to this forum, and I promise I won't stray again.

I found that thread quite entertaining. Especially the know-it-all who has no idea what he's talking about and isn't even involved. I think he probably topped the # of posts in that thread... well, that and of course the words from the guest of honor... :D

Tbone,

Like the prodigal son - welcome back!! One thing for sure you'll never feel "dirty" here.

There also aren't any rude or uninteresting knuckleheads here, except for . . . . . and . . . . . .; oh, and there's also . . . .; then there's. . . . ., . . . . . . ., . . . . . ., . . . . . .!!:)

T-Bone, I also don't see why you should feel dirty. As far as I know you said nothing bad or rude about EBMM, and most generally about people & things you like or love. One should only feel dirty when he betrays friends or when he even betrays his own opinions.

That's all these forums are : user generated content.
TB is an interesting place when someone shares something interesting.
TB is a crappy place when someone posts crap.
Nothing less, nothing more.

Just IMO, of course.

I find TB a good place to find opinions in a wide variety of bass gear. If someone makes a widget for bass, someone at TB has probably posted about it.

But when it comes to having (or just reading) an intelligent conversation about something with good people, I always come back here. There's some great guys over at TB but there's also a load of trolls, which don't seem to hang around here much.

It's Talkbass, and it is what it is.

The signal to noise ratio can be pretty low and yes, there are a few asshats.

Sometimes it seems like more than a few, but as we've learned here and elsewhere, all it takes is one or two to disrupt normal operations.

I participate only when something interests me, and it's generally Music Man-related. I see no point in even opening threads about Benaventes or SXs. I'm not going to have anything positive to contribute, you know?

It's an opportunity, usually, to get the right information out there instead of the pervasive Internet Rumors. ("Did you hear that they don't make the basses in SLO anymore? Yep, moved the whole thing to Iceland.")

That's how I survive it - by being picky about what I get involved in. Talkbass is one of the oldest and certainly one of the biggest bass sites on the 'net, so I find it worthwhile to keep an eye on it and try to correct bad information if I can.

It can be trying! But I also have a couple of friends who are moderators there, and they're great guys - and would any of you want that job?

For as many members as there are on TB, there isn't a whole lot of knowledge being spread around. Innuendo, bitchiness, lies and half truths, yes.
BUT, TB is one of the few sites where you can converse about a wide range of gear. There used to be a smaller, wide ranging site, but it kind of fell apart.

I just posted my experience with the talked about party and then posted about just getting my Sterling HH DD to lighten things up. :D

I frequent TB but it's mostly the effects forum because that's my current trip, I also browse the classifieds.
I might even venture into the general bass discussions but there isn't very much there for me.

I have posted things in forums in the past I regretted not because it wasn't true but because I was sinking to other peoples lows. I don't feel dirty about posting in the most recent topic as I had a bad experience with a dealer and felt it would be a disservice to with hold that info to other potential customers.

So yeah I posted there but no I don't feel dirty about it.

I assume you are probably talking about me and, if not, it doesn't change what I want to say anyway.

I am sorry I got too involved in that discussion, my only aim was to avoid what seemed like the inevitable inter-forum ****ing match that would result, however I got distracted and overly involved in the argument and am sorry for that and any feather ruffling that it has caused in the EBMM community.

Don't worry - I am not joining to particiapte in these forums on a regular basis as my only connection is a EBMM guitar that my brother owns. I just wanted to apologise and hopefully douse the flames in any "inter-forum" war that might otherwise result.

Listen....talk Bass is fine...what jack said.

The sad thing is when someone else can be a plea bargined felon that has spent his customers money, but knows the the general public will always bite on the big guy picking on the little guy...

I have 6,000 customers in eighty countries and 400 on the payroll. How come nobody else has come forward with these allegations of persecution after forty years in business? Getting past tabliod mentality it doesnt add up that I would pick any customer and only one customer to torment....The carpet has to match the drapes ....

Jack has the right idea. I participate on TB. There are a lot of good, knowledgeable people there. But there also are a lot of people who think they know what they are talking about, but usually don't. They feel the need to butt in on every conversation, even if they have nothing positive or constructive to contribute. As a result, most threads usually turn into "My XX bass is better than yours." For no other reason than they happen to own XX brand and aren't open minded enough to find out about other brands.

Mark

I stayed out of the fight there.

Please stick around. You never know how fate plays out. You actually might like it here!

Good on you for the apology. Ignore the smoke and mirrors....Anyone ever say that I didnt deliver? didnt pay someone?
I called Dan Lakland out because he get involved in our business. The public can only judge what they see and there is more to it than that. Conversations and quotes. I just said that Dan posted a plea for continued support for this customer and agreed to make a ltd edition as an encouragement for people to help the embattled customer and the deposits are now apparently gone and what is he going to do about it?

I found it interesting that people with zero history in the Dargies or the lakland DPLE3 were calling Jack out because he dint have a dog in the hunt...what about them?

All of our customers got made whole.....
