Albert Lee guitars are awesome.

I went to a Doctor's appointment downtown this afternoon. Rather than sit in LA traffic for 2 hours I decided to head over to the Hollywood Guitar Center. They had quite a few really nice EBMM guitars. This includes several I have never seen at a store before: JP BFR, Morse Y2D, Silo Special and the Albert Lee.

I tried most of them, and was most impressed with the Albert Lee. I gotta admit I always thought they looked a bit weird. But it is well balanced and plays awesome. Plus the maple fretboard looked especially cool on this particular one. I can now see why Rob is hooked. ;)

I really liked the Morse too, but am afraid that the lack of contour would not fit my playing style too well. Steve Morse is favorite guitar and his playing got me into EBMM guitars in the first place. Too bad I haven't figured out how to play like him.

I also spent some time in the acoustic room. Man I like those Martin Dreadnaughts! Luckily I was only there to look because between the AL and the Dreadnaught I would have had a tough choice. (I could really use a nice acoustic).

After I left, it was almost 6pm.... it still took me about 1 hr and 15 minutes to go only 28 miles to Long Beach.

Awesome to hear!

Yeah, the Alberts are like that ... tough to "get" them until you have a chance to play them. I didn't like the shape at first either, but first time I got to play one I was hooked. So well balanced and fits like a glove!

(That said I just played a gig tonight with my Axis Sport MM90. But don't tell Albert.)

What Martin did you check out? Just curious.

I was trying to remember exactly. It was a Dreadnaught, 16 series with the upgraded electric pickup. Solid wood, not the laminate. REALLY nice! I am always amazed at how drastically different the acoustic guitars sound and feel from one to another.

Excellent! Gotta love the AL, its an awesome axe! How could anyone not like it?!?!

SO true! :D

I've been thinning my herd lately (just a bit) and am down to only playing/going to keep 3. (the AL, my PRS and my 20th Silo). I have been putting 10-52s on my AL for a long time now and the bottom 2 strings (E & A) always sat just a mm or 2 up in the nut. I have finally worn them down where they NOW sit right in the bottom of the nut groove! After noticing this, I did some tweaking to the truss and a couple saddles and - oh my! - this baby plays better than ever now!

Why the long hijack? Well, I went to a local store - a great one too - and played a "new" vintage strat - which I was absolutely blown away with. If I were a rich man......

Anyways, I came home with the tone and feel of that guitar in my head and immediately went and played my AL - it was better. And my my AL didn't cost me $3199.00 .

I absolutely love my AL too!! No desire for a strat or tele anymore :)

Before I bought my Martin D28, I tried every acoustic in the GC expensive room and this one had the projection and tone I was looking for. Ones that were way more expensive didn't do it for me (Example: Clapton's model, Gibsons etc..)

Alberts are the real deal. I liked the look before I even held one, then I plugged one in and was sold. I wish I had the skills to do the guitar justice.

yeah the other day i was in a shop trying out some amps and i didnt have any AL's on me, so the shop dude says i can play one of the 20 custom shop strats if i like, man i really dont get it, really. Setups were awful, playability awful, feel awful, sound was ok- strats sound awesome for sure! You just cannot go past the fantastic feel of the EBMM neck, and the overall feel of the AL neck in particular, you could just play it all day.
