Hi guys,

I have a really nice Lespaul standard sitting in my wardrobe that i havent played much in the past few months.
since getting my BFR a few months ago i was thinking about selling the LP to fund another musicman?
I was seriously considering buying another BFR JP in the new tobacco colour but i am unsure what to do.
i like to listen to alot of diverse range of music from rock/metal primarily to some pop, jazz, blues and country music.i also love acoustic type singersongwriter stuff.

what guitar would you guys advise me to buy if i were to sell my gibson to buy another ball?
i sort of have abit of loyalty to the LP as it was my first really good guitar and also i was influenced by slash in abig way growing up.

cheers

col:confused:

Don't sell it if you don't want to. Some Les Pauls are awesome, but if you were to sell it.. I'd say get a Luke! So versatile.. or another JP..

BFR Luke or BFR Albert Lee. If the Gibson ain't doing it, its time to move on... (Thats always been my philosophy)

Not that I've played one yet, but a 20th Anniversary Silo may be a good option. Everything I've read seems to suggest it's a fantastic guitar. I just bought my first Ball (ASS) which is due to arrive in the next month. When I ordered my ASS, I wasn't aware of the 20th Anniversary Silo. If I knew then what I know now, I would have tracked one down to try it out in person before buying the ASS.

Sleep on it. Whenever you get a new guitar, it tends to take center stage for a while. Wait a few weeks and then sit with the Les Paul. If you react to an immediate feeling, you may regret it. The LP is certainly going to retain it's value a few more weeks if you do move it.

Ahhh..I echo that remark  I haven't even received my ASS yet, and I'm already itching to get another EBMM. Seeing all of these guitars on the forum (Dargie Delights, 20th Anniversary Silo's, JP6's...) is brewing some bad GAS. Thank God I'm married or else I'd have 2 or 3 more Balls on the way:D My wife is very understanding of big purchases, but she does keep me in check.

Dont sell it,you will regret it later. Save for another musicman and just enjoy the one you have. Just let it grow on you.

Colin,

Only you know what to do, if you like the LP then keep it, otherwise let it go and get a new ball, only you know how you really feel. good luck.

I'm sure if you hold off a bit and find another way to make the money that you can keep the LP and still fund a BFR. It sounds like you have a bit of a connection to the LP and I think you'd regret selling it. From time to time I regret selling my LP and even other guitars.

The forum will make your GAS unstoppable, though, so you may want to lay off the drug...

I know. It's tough, man. I have a takamine ef-341c that everybody just loves: wife, brother, best friend, etc. (I know that this does not compare to the LP in anyway).
The guitar sounds very good; my brother (who plays a lot more than I do) says it's the best acoustic he's ever played.....yada, yada, yada. Everybody wants it when I'm dead.
The problem is that I never really play it. It' big, ya know? It's not very comfortable, and I'm just more drawn to my electrics.
I've considered selling it many times. It won't pull a whole lot, but it would be enough for a down payment for a new Ball with Dubaldo.
It's hard to part with something when everybody else tells you not to. I was pretty close to selling it recently and the thing that hurt a lilttle was how quick the guy was willing to pull the trigger on it, like almost immediately after a few strums.
I say do what I'm doing: just keep it and slowly save for a new ball. It will mean more to you when you get it, and you will still have your LP.
I work a few extra jobs and I already told my wife that I'm taking a little bit off of the top to get to at least half of the ball. I figure when it's done 4 months later, I should have the other half (I'd better).
Another thing I'm doing is this: if we skip our weekend at the movies? Guess what? That money that was going towards a ticket is going in the Ball Fund!
Good luck.
I took a guy with me this past week to check out an ErnieBall Silhouette (he had no choice, he drove with me to a luncheon). Anyway, he knows nothing about guitars.
Today I asked him what he thought of the silo I tried out, and he said this:"A guitar is only as good as the person playing it".
In other words, in the end, it's just a guitar.

Another option is offering to trade it for a MM of your choice. Just do homework on resale values so you don't get smoked.

colin, I'm with darchirnoj on this one. Keep the LP and save for a new Ball. I've had my LP Custom for 25 years and would never get rid of it. It gets better with age! I've thought about using it to fund a new Ball, but quickly dismissed the notion. I'm saving up for my next purchase and am happy to keep the LP.

I sold my gibson to help fund my first Steve Morse model. Never regretted it. Since then I have gone into music stores with money in hand with the intention of buying another Gibson. Just never found one I liked.

But that's just me.
