Hard to photograph colors?

After much swooning over the last week or so, with all the color-specific threads, I was faced again with trying to get a decent shot of my Trans Purple Sterling.

Granted, I have an inexpensive camera and no special lighting, so the bass usually just looks an indistinct dark color, hiding the full magnificence of the instrument.

So, I was very glad to get these the other day...

While they're not perfect, I'm relieved that I don't have to take the cheap route and instead rely on having young models pose with the guitar anymore...

Anybody else have trouble getting an accurate photo of their finish?

Your pics turned out ok.

My Trans White and Trans Crimson are both difficult to photograph with good results.

The 30th is tough to do justice in a photo. Black is notoriously hard to photograph well without reflections too.

All the pictures of trans teal I've seen look different. Some look like a light blue, some look downright green.

Trans green is a tough one to get a good shot of. So is carbon blue pearl.

Almost all of the sparkle finishes are really tough to capture.

agreed with the teal...i have 2 photos, same location, different light settings...check out the honeyburst color, it is consisitant but the teal and black...no good

i guess it is a light color and dark color thing...lighter colors seem to be easier to photograph...the car in the background actually isn't purple, it's maroon (i only had 2 stands and needed a safe and soft rest for the 3rd bass so the spoiler on my car got the love)...i love photography but I don't like taking the pictures

my dad has a ton of photos of me little playing his electric guitars...and sitting in his racecars at the steering wheel...well i'm in my mid 20's and i play guitar and bass and race cars all over the country...dad always has a big influence

With the exception of black and natural, I think all of the colors are hard to photograph. There's some serious voodoo going on in the EBMM paint booths.

So far, this statement has proved true in my experience:

It always looks better in person than it does in photos.

Color spaces, profiles, color temperatures, monitor settings & resolutions...ouch..my head hurts. It'll be extremely challenging for the color you're seeing to replicate on my laptop.

Both my Rays look much better in person then I have have ever been able to capture in a photo. My Trans Orange SR5 is absolutely stunning in natural light!

I've found my black sparkle very hard to photograph if you want to really let the sparkle shine, (well, maybe the fault is all mine)
as you can see, the light changes radically the look of the bass and make it more grey :

Agreed, sparkle finishes are very hard. My autumn redrise sometimes just looks pure orange and others it looks white.

If your autumn redrise looks white, it's probably time for a new camera...
