Hey guys,

I just bought a new Stingray 5, serial number E57175.

Any chance i could get some info on it? Woods used, pickup types, birth date etc.?

Thanks heaps,
Mike

The new SR5 should have ceramic pickups (same as the sr4 now), unless of course it's been there for a while in which case the pickups might be alnico, you can answer that question yourself if you know it literally just came in maybe a month ago or less or if it's been there a while. The wood should be ash as is standard with all rays (i think)

I am sure you meant this the other way around ...;) the current SR5s and all SR4s have alnicos .... :)

Not sure how long its been around, got it about 3 weeks ago but dont know how long it was sitting in the shop in melbourne (aus) for...

The experts will be around shortly...probably sometime today or tomorrow.

Hey all, I am back from a long weekend ... Mike, it appears your bass has ceramic pickups as we started shipping them with Alnicos on March 8, 2008. Yours was completed on March 12 2007. We show the bass as a White maple, or as we like to say, an albino ... :D

Hi guys, I just bought a Stingray with serial no E21344. Can you tell me anything about it? Born around 2000, according to seller.

Thanks!

klextas, congrats on your new StingRay ... according to our records you just acquired a 2-band EQ Natural StingRay with a rosewood fretboard and a black pickguard. Completion date February 1 2001. Originally shipped to the UK.

Thanks a lot for checking :) I'm gonna see if it sounds and/or feels any different from my 3-band StingRay, and keep the one I like best...

Hi,

Recently picked up a beautiful fretless stingray (1991) I'm lead to believe, would love some clarification on her real date of birth, her serial number is 32855. Immaculate condition for a 17yr old bass!

Thanks

Drew, this lovely bass was shipped to our Austrian distributor after being completed on June 14, 1991. Our records show it as having a Sunburst finish and a maple board.

Dan,

I played a SR5 the other day at a GC. Its ser# E64811. It sounded different than other SR5's I've played. Did this one have the alnico pickup in it? Or was it a case of the strings hadn't gone dead yet. :D

Thanks

shep, if you mean it was different in a good way, then it is because it has the alnico pickup - if it was different in a bad way, then the setup was messed with and the strings were dead :D:D

Actually that serial number indicates the bass was made too early (2/15/07) to have the alnico pickup, so it would proabaly have to be the strings.

Thanks Dan, it looked too new and the strings were in good shape. Must have been sitting in a warehouse somewhere for the last year.

Is it possible to get an approx ser# start for the alinco SR5's. I would really like to hear one (then maybe own one) That way in my travels I could just check ser# without posting "Is it alnico yet?" :D:D

thanks,
