I wish I had one as a kid!!

Let's face it, the guitar can be somewhat "intimidating" if you think you're going to pick it up for the first time and play it along with "Going Home" by Ten Years After in your bedroom.

However, as of late, the guitar now has a "stepping stone", as it were, for young (and older) interest, so as not to discourage, but encourage playing a real guitar.

Anyone having any degree of playing skill on a real guitar most likely started out on an "air guitar", well, this is the high tech version of the air guitar!

Now the entire world can play a guitar (instantly)!!!!

Hey did you know every single professional motorcycle rider started out on a bicycle. Get ready, we will all be reading one day how our favorite guitar player started out on (you guessed it!). Just my opinion.

It's a freakin' game...instead of shooting an alien or something you press a button on a plastic make believe guitar when that button's corresponding color comes at you from the screen. That's it...nothing else...a game. It was not designed to be "creative" or to make playing guitar more simple. It is a game to score points.

It can, however, get a person excited to play a real guitar simply because of the atmosphere it creates. That's it....simple game...nothing to get deep about by any stretch.

My local music store (and an MM dealer) is using the game tie-in to promote lessons at their shop in a local cable commercial.

Shot of a kid having a good time playing guitar hero. In pops the "Guitar God" (one of the shop's instructors) with a metal looking axe and says - hey kid why not try the real thing. Kid looks excited grabs it, but has a bit of difficulty. Guitar God says - hey you need some lessons down at Rockland Music.

The follow up will have the kid (who is actually a good player from what I hear) playing to a crowd and impressing the young lovelies - Guitar God nodding and smiling

Sorry to be a bit explicit here guys but id like to compare playing guitar hero with having sex.

you cant beat the 'REAL' thing!!!!!!

Thats why i prefer to play with real balls instead of playing with computer games LOL

Oh my.

That wasn't the most gracefully constructed bunch of sentences....

If I were you, I would make this face right about now:

Colinboy are you a friggin moron? Its like saying apple seeds dont taste as good as an apple. IO just said that I would close the post if I got responses like this. If we left the future of the guitar up to you I would be selling cars.

The guitar was on its ass!!!!!!!! Now it is on fire. It is up to our industry to convert and provide good education and applications for people to continue with the progression from guitar hero to a chinese guitar to hopefully a music man...

As an ndustry we need to give people an opporunity to play live and develop better interactive teaching methods.

Colin dont take this personally but I think that you were forewarned that this is a hot button from the myopic arguments that have been raging while the proof is in the pudding. The world is producing more guitars than ever in history. To not directly give credit to this is just really not right.......

Apolgies if i said the wrong thing BP.i think calling me a moron is abit over the top to be honest.
Im not from the land of oppourtunity that is the USA and didnt realise the computer game was that much of a marketing tool for the guitar manufacturing industry.if it gets kids into playing real guitar longterm then im all for it.

Excuse my ignorance if thats the case.

Here is a recent quote from Geoff Mayfield(Senior Analyst and director for Billboard Magazine) "A few weeks ago, when the game featuring Aerosmith came out, there was more than a 40% increase in their catalog sales. I expect you"ll see that again when Metallica gets the same kind of treatment in a few weeks" ......The power is there!!

here comes the judgemental old farts that thank god I didnt listen to when we signed on to guitar hero.

Shipments of begining guitars are up 40% I sick of trying nicely to explain that something that involves the guitar or the name guitar that does billions of business is good for planting seed for real guitarists....

this has saved our businesses ass. period If we get a long discussion form the narrow minded judgemental psycobabble I will just close it.

As I said to a group of industry leaders who spent 45 minutes debating its relelavance and worth "WOuld you prefer it to be called Tractor Hero?"

As you can tell I have lost patience on this subject

I send my sincerest apologies. I certainly didn't mean to offend. I was unaware of the increase in sales in guitar related-products due to the success of the game. Thank you for correcting my ignorance and for the lumps, BP! May I have another?!

I, like Colin, love your products and wish only success for Ernie Ball Music Man and the future of young aspiring guitarists.

There IS some transfer of skill from Grand Tourismo to the real thing. I've used the example of a front wheel drive car.....when you get in trouble, get the car pointed in the right direction and floor it. My racecar is a front driver and it's a mainstay of my technique.

FWD cars are easier to handle than RWD aren't they?:D

Guitar Hero saves my life

My Y2D and the bass player's Stingray are making nice mellow retro-rock sounds for a mixed crowd at a cool new pub in the hood. Just after they play some white hip hop on the break before midnight, a Facebook swarming hits -- at least a hundred 7-foot-tall 19-year-olds (they're all around me -- no stage, nowhere to hide). What is a 53-year-old to do?
Turn up the ancient Traynor and hack out some Zep, Skynyrd, etc. while busting every move I've never seen on the video game.
The result? Knuckle slams interrupt my attempts at solos as these towering teens tell me how cool the guitar playing is ... and I make it out of the parking lot as a real guitar hero before the fights start.
BTW, my nephew in Italy just bought his second electric guitar with his own money and jammed with us when he visited this summer.
Video games? This has all got to be good.

The only reason I don't like the game is because I suck at it. I suck so bad at guitar hero it's not even funny lol. My fiancee on the other hand is extremely good.

I think it's great how the game is getting so many people into instruments and music in general. I have seen and talked to kids who wouldn't show any interest in music prior to game but have changed their minds.

If they made a JP for GH I would totally buy it for my fiancee. Any plans on that BP?
