Off Topic What is the best gig you've been to?

I have been to a few gigs in my relatively short life, the most recent being 'the streets' (british hip-hop/rap band) and Bedouin Soundclash before that, but many others (big bands such as foo fighters, chilis etc)

So far the streets have been the best gig I think I've been to, but that could change in april when I see the prodigy and maceo parker.

John Lee Hooker on his 60th birthday at Toad's Place in New Haven CT.
Roy Buchanan in 1978 at the same venue.
Iggy Pop in 1981 Also at Toad's.
NRBQ at the Bottom Line 1986 was a really fun show.

Pink Floyd - 1994

Saw Pink Floyd at Yankee Stadium on this (Division Bell) tour. Definitely #1 for me. I still to this day cannot believe how much emotion Pink Floyd can pack into a single note.

Leon Russell & Edgar Winters along with the Jerry Garcia Band @ Henry J. Kaiser auditorium on Halloween '88 OR CSN & Grateful Dead at the Buffalo Bills football stadium in '89. They were both great shows, can't pick #2 though.

After that it's a blend of Rush, Yes, Max Creek, Ozzy and more.

I don't really like large venue shows, but a few that stand out (that I can remember) are:
1971 - Yes opening for Grand Funk Railroad - Yale Bowl
1973 - Grateful Dead 6 hour show at Bushnell Park
1977 - Weather Report opening for Earth Wind & Fire - New Haven Coliseum
1977 - Stanley Clarke opening for Bob Marley - MSG.
2008 - Nine Inch Nails - Wachovia Center

Jethro Tull/Gentle Giant - 1973. Tull was still rockin' Aqualung but introduced us to the entire Thick As A Brick suite. Gentle Giant KILLED, playing all manner of obscure instruments and making me realize that there was more than 4/4 time.

Zappa - 1978. I'd seen Zappa before, but this was a stripped down ensemble with Bozzio on drums. Also FZ was onstage when we rushed in and talked to us, took questions and whatnot, for almost an hour. "You can't do this in New York", he said.

Todd R and Utopia - 1974, I think. The "big" Utopia, preceeded by a Todd solo set that was the weirdest, coolest thing I'd ever seen.

Return To Forever here in Denver last year! I was in the audience with my daughter and son and that was a treat for my old ears. Best Show I mixed out of 3000 in 22 years, tough question. Maceo was good, so was Ronnie James Dio, so was Hellen Reddy, Robin Trower oh yeah. Tough question! Maybe Ramstein or G-Love. There were about 1000 hot 20-30 year old women in that audience.

good question, well not all the bands really make it to soth america, but lately there's been a lot of action around here. I think my top 5 are (there really all number ones):

Metallica '93, black album tour
Faith No More '95 King For a Day Tour (after them was Ozzy)
Nine Inch Nails '08 Lights Over South America Tour
Radiohead '09 (yesterday actually, and i'm going today again ) In Rainbows Tour
Roger Waters '01 i don't recall the name of the tour

This week has been amazing for me, tuesday Peter Gabriel, Wednesday Mike Patton with Zu (barely out of the top 5) and Chris Cornell who played a 2:50 show, yesterday Radiohead, today Radiohead, and sunday Sonic Youth... next week we got Kiss and Opeth, but i don't have tickets for those... yet hehehe

Hmmm... for big shows, I'd have to say Radiohead in Mountain View, CA (Hail to the Thief tour), for mid size shows, I really enjoyed seeing Dredg in Petaluma, CA (their bass Player, Drew, plays an SR5 ).
