Naked Bongos in my Mancave!

Took some pics of the new Cabernet/Rosewood BFR and tried to show how the flake in the finish appears. After trying a clear pickguard on my blue dawn bongo (did not like the glare at certain angles), I decided that the pickguard I liked the best was the one that you could see through but did not have an outline- none. Of course you still have to have screws so I found some #2 phillips at a hobby shop and they fit perfect in the little countersunk holes.

The flake on the blue dawn looks like the particles are bigger but I also like the smaller flakes in the cabernet.

Oh my. Good Choice, that Cabernet Pearl NO idea how truly bad ass that color was. Just like ice blue... a sleeper. What a stunner.

Bongo 5's look great without a pickguard. What pickguards were on them originally?

They all had black guards, even the stealth(!)

What can I say, I like basses that don't look like fenders. They're not too bad for four stringers, if you want a fiver- reach for a bongo!

I like naked Bongos! IMO, it's really a shame to cover a great colour like Blue Dawn -- it looks killer. And the Cabernet with Rosewood is like Red Wine & Chocolate. Tasty! It could probably only be topped by Buttercream with Rosewood.

Oh, and that stealth... I need to get me one of those as four banger. I really do. Don't I?

My thoughts on the HS are that the mids seem to have a more pronounced growl over the HH that is reminiscent of some of my ricks. The HH sounds more balanced through the spectrum with a "rounder" kind of sound. This is with the same EB strings on both and the balance knob on the center notch. Keep in mind this HS has a full rosewood neck which could be influencing the sound to some degree.

I don't know if its the lighting in there or because I have a flat top, but my cabernet pearl guitar looks much darker and red. Either way love this color. Looks fab on the Bongo!

yep Cabernet Pearl+rosewood is a very good combination (same as white pearl+rosewood)

and I love the naked bongo but pickguard always add a bit of classy touch like on the former Axis Sport

The cabernet pearl on ThePerfectBass seems different in color than the one you posted.

I love the one you have and want to be sure when I order mine to get the same color.

It could be the lighting in the photos or my monitor

The answer to the color difference is that the lighting will change the shade of dark red to varying degrees and these two pictures will show that since they are of the exact same bass. Brandt took the first picture and used a medium intensity light source(?) and maybe some kind of filter because the flake is not visible at all. I took the second picture and got as much light into the room as possible so the flake would reflect it back. Trust me, this is the same bass and even these pictures do not show how awesome this finish is in person.
