Let's End This "What is Petrucci Micing on Stage" Thing

OK, there are 2 schools of thought.

1- He still uses his 6 4x12's and has started to mic a 1x12 combo back stage.

2- He still uses his 6 4x12's and mics them.



What does he do and why???

Mike was giving a stage tour and showing everyon'e equipment and when he got to John's stuff he just says that he has the cabinets facing the audience purely for show and when he goes behind the 6 cabs, there is a 2x12 covered with a u-haul blanket facing away from the audience that he actually uses.
I think that the stage would look too empty without it because they don't use stage monitors either I guess.

I meant to say 1 4x12, not 2x12, but didn't realize/remember that there were 2 of them Phil. thanks.

The secret to John's fat tone live is that 7ms of delay he uses. I tried it out last night for fun on my AxeFx and was pretty skeptical what that small of a delay would do. But wow, it really does give the illusion of a bigger sound.

That's something he has done in the studio.

The problem with trying to "end this once and for all" is that JP keeps changing stuff.

If you look at some of the most recent concert shots, he's got 2 of the 4x12's in front mic'ed up, so I don't think he's doing 2 4x12's in back thing anymore.
