Was wondering if there is a general idea or consensus of which Artist guitar by Ernie Ball is the most popular....from what i have seen it has to be the Petrucci series that is most widley used in instructinal DVD's and for sale on internet and music shops. Is this the case?.

Reason i am wondering is that i would like to order either a Luke or a Petrucci Growing up Steve Lukather was a big influence on me and if he had a hand in design then it should be the best of both worlds (Strat meets EBMM) but when i start looking at all the people who own Petrucci's it makes me wonder if his series is the best.....any Thoughts.

Well, I believe the BFR JP6 is the best-selling guitar right now. I think BP said something to that effect in one of the threads here. At least, that's how I interpreted it.

Before the BFR JP6 came out, an unscientific observation by an EBMM employee was consistent with the idea that the original JP6 was the best-selling EBMM guitar.

Would I say that the BFR JP6 or the original JP6 are the best guitars? No. Do I love the Luke? Yes. Will I get one in the future? Yes. Do I believe that the Luke is better at some things than the JP? Yes. Let's face it. Both are great guitars. Both do their thing really well. Different horses for different courses.

Try a bunch of EBMM models and decide what is best for YOU. Everyone is different and just because your favorite artist likes his guitar a certain way does not guarantee that it's going to suit you.

Is what sells the best actually the best? Nickleback sells a lot of cd's......
+1

In my opinion they are all great. I would but EBMMs endorsed musicians above any other guitar companies.

But what do I know I'm just a fan-boy :p

Yes there is a lot of fan interest when it comes to buying a guitar. I'll be honest, I first heard about EBMM first when listening to EVH, then forgot for a while, then noticed JP using them. Then I started doing some research.

While there can be reasons why the JP is the best seller (assuming that this is even true) one will definitely have to be its versatility and its comfort.

Humbucking guitar with a floating trem that needs no locking nut, 24 frets, piezo, mono or stereo/magnetic, arm scoop, body contour etc etc.

The features and more importantly quality speak for themselves. There are tons of folks around here who use JP's for non Metal, Hard Rock, or Shredding applications.

And in a different contrast there are plenty of people here who use the Luke with such versatility.

For me I was so torn with the Luke and JP because both were so comfortable and playable, but it was the ready availabiltiy of the Rosewood JP at Dubaldo's that sealed the deal for me.

My recommendation. PLAY BOTH!

I believe that the JP has eclipsed the EVH. (Remember, they only made the EVH for something like 3 years, and EBMM operated at a much lower capacity than they do now.) I don't know what happens if you take into account the Axis.

Parker,

The Luke and the JP are both great guitars.
Major difference in the neck shape.. "V" shaped for the Luke, flat and thin for the JP. Also the Luke has EMG active pickups whereas the JP has DiMarzio passive pickups... another major difference.

If you can try before you buy, I'd go that route. They're such different animals. I think the JP outsells the rest, but that just means the others (like the Albert Lee) are under appreciated/well-kept secrets!

Excellent answers to my question you guys...thanks very much for the info,The EMG's in the luke seem like a bit of a draw back for me as i like the tone of Alnico magnets (old school i guess) but i do like the soft v shape neck so thats a plus and a great tip thanks Steve B. I will have to play them ...the only trouble with that is the music store here in my city stocks little or no EB product i had to order both my Axis and my BFR albert without trying them out first:confused::eek: Don't know what they have against them but the manager told me that most customes thought they were dull sounding a few years ago and now the only thing in the store EB is a couple of bass's.

I guess i will have to go to their main store in another city and try them out there.

The Petrucci sure seems well designed with the cut aways in all the right positions front and back.....do they make the Luke with passive pick ups as an option? i will have to check that out as well.

Thanks again all you members for taking the time to reply to my query.

Just remember! You can't go wrong with either!

The Lukes also come with the stock EMG's. I don't think you can order them with different pups. You might also wanna keep in mind that it could possibly affect your pedal chain, if you're using things like a volume pedal etc.

All the artists had a say in the design of "their" guitar. Everyone of them is made to the artists spec. Reason, if their gear gets hung up somewhere...they can get one at a local shop and play it as it is set up for them.

Look at the thread about The Perfect Bass helping Luke out. Great example right there if there was one.

For some odd reason....I am tempted to get a Luke. I never gelled with the neck and it is killing me to try one again. Not sure why....I have always loved the JP and the Axis.

Still deciding on what to do next.

Anyway....it sounds like the Luke is what you are after. You can't get different pups though...it comes stock EMG's. You could always change them out as it is YOUR guitar.

Do try and check them out. My brain tells me, man the JPs are sweet - get one! But my hands tell me - deeamn that's a thin neck, just not comfortable for me. I do want to check one out a bit more again sometime. Luckily the 25th is out there to fill my que!

Well, I hate to sound like a fanboy but they are all great. I would second the suggestion to try them all and find the one that best fits you and your style of playing. They are all winners!

I totally agree with this post. I am not sure where you are, but if you have a local store that carries EBMM's, then check them all out. It will be well worth it..... A lot of time was spent on each design and it really shows.

3 cheers for the crew at Ernie Ball !

I started by buying a Luke. Then bought an Albert, an Axis supersport, and a morse. Then more Lukes. The Morse I sold, and the Albert and Axis never get played.

It just came down to I love lukes. And I always love picking one up. I compare it to the first time you get to 2nd base.

And while for me the other EB guitars are all fine instruments, Im most inspired by everything about the Luke.

But people look for different things in guitars and have different sounds in their head how they want it to sound so only spending time (lots of time) with several can you find the one that feels made for you.

BTW I just gave away a '76 strat with emg's (which i put in because of the luke tone but still hated the strat neck and never played it) to a local guy who tells me he LOVES it.

Weird, as I didn't even keep the thing in the same closet as my LUKES!

it has been scientifically proven that Silo Specials are the best....

Silo is this dude that lives in this place somewhere and doesn't really communicate with anyone anymore....he designed a nice guitar though....his full name is Silhouette (strange...I know).

:D ....... jk!
