Hard 8 BBQ in Coppell, Texas. BBQ joints are perfect for Cowpilot (if such a thing is possible).

Bringing, after much consideration, the Dargie Bongo 5 HS and the Candy Red Bongo 5 single H.

Why, you may ask?

They were easy to reach.

If you're in the DFW area, we'll be there tonight (Friday).

Try not to get too many dings in the DD1 Jack, because, you know ..... when that happens ...... somewhere in the world ...... a martini glass breaks ... :D

And another one goes into the books.

Yeeha, it was HOT. Load-in and setup plus soundcheck turned us all into dripping zombies. Ah well, life in Tex-Ass.

First set finished, I find a guy waiting to talk to me. "Are y'all done?" He goes on to say that HIS band is booked to play inside, some radio station thing, they've driven a hundred miles, blah blah blah. I say, "Nope, we're just getting started - you need a band?" I'm all smiles. He's not, so, you know, we're all musicians here but I've now decided he can kiss my ass, frankly. "Go find the manager and best of luck", I tell him. They end up playing inside to the bartenders and some droopy hangers-on who can barely stay awake through the horrifically weepy pseudo-country pap that the trio can barely play.

Chris (our guitarist) goes to check them out. "I'm no bass player", he says, to which I agree. "But I can play rings around THAT guy." I figure, come on, he can't be that bad, it's a bunch of three chord stuff, how bad can you BE?

Okay. He was that bad. I-IV-V was not his pal at all. Anyway.

Played the Dargie HS 5 Bongo through the LMII with the MB cabs. Sonic perfection without a hitch - and light! And yeah, sure, I'm a company man, bought and paid for and also a fanboi and all that, but damn. The Bongo just kills me every time I get a chance to take it out and show it off. God bless you, Sterling Ball. What a concept.

One decrepit cellphone pic attached.

I'm creeping up on 200 posts, but you do have 2 years headstart. Watch out, here I come.

Seems like most musicians have an inverse ratio of talent to jerkyness. Lack of talent is compensated for by bad attitude.

Jimmy Lee James Band had a Happy Hours gig on Friday. When we showed up, another band was setting up. Awkward! We were not pleased. They had been booked originally, but never confirmed, so we were booked. After a quick game of Rock, Paper, Scissors, they packed up and we set up.
Actually, the bar owners offered them dinner and drinks for the night, so they sat around pounding martinis and smirking at our songs. By the end of the night, one or two of them loosened up, and a couple of the wife/girlfiends came up and danced. Again, awkward!

At the very same moment in time, 1000 miles to the north, Blue Steel Band, my new country band where I'm learning the seemingly endless possibility of the I, IV and V chords, entertained and I also played a Dargie HS, but it was my SR5 Dargie HS. I figured on a night where it was a) Labor Day weekend, b) Wisconsin Badger 1st-of-the-year home football game and c) The Taste of Madison (big downtown Madison event), we'd have...oh....about 10 people. Well we had closer to 50 and most stayed and drank all night, so it was deemed by the bartender "a success". And Jack, it was a balmy 65 degress when we started playing.
