Hey guys and gals just we want to remind everyone that these are the first prototypes and I'm sure we will tweak them in different ways. It's also possible that we do a "standard" version with oil / wax necks that will be around the same price as a normal Stingray, and also build some with figured lacquered necks that are more expensive...

I'm really pleased to see this "affordable" thinking in the planning stage. Thank-you for considering this. Nothing hurts more than seeing a vintage/retro - re-issue that you really would like to own only to find out that the price is in the "exclusive collector only" category (ie: very expensive). I really hope these won't be "exclusively" priced.

Hinged battery compartment is the way to go, whether it's plastic, metal, carbon fibre or compressed Weeties. I like being able to pull a battery in a few seconds to do a tongue test before a gig rather than taking out two screws with a screwdriver.

I like the idea of the chrome battery cover. I'd suggest that the screw holding it in place have a regular slot in it rather than philips design. The slot should be wide enough to accomodate the thickness of a dime which could be used to loosen and tighten the screw. Everybody carries a dime in their pocket. But if you don't, i'm sure a fellow band mate will have one.

Just a thought.

Yeah I like the chrome battery covers

and on a side note hopefully the mute assemblies will be available as spare parts so any missing on your Pre-EB can be replaced and not pay E-bay prices!!!

Good on you BP but please don't bring out reliced basses - my pet hate!!!

These new old basses sound amazing. Plus, I've always been a sucker for the "StingRay Bass" decal. Can't wait to try one.

A magnetic battery cover might create a hum if interfering with the electronics. Someone said that megnetic fields can also drain some batteries rather quick if being too close but I have no personal knollage about this. I stood close to a bare speaker while playing the other day and the magnetic coil on the speaker made my bass hum so I had to step away from it.

boring, probably inaccurate:
changes in the magnetic field cause changes in the electric current and vice versa (that's sorta how pickups work). if the magnetic field is fixed wrt something like a copper wire, there will be no change induced on the wire. a magnetic battery cover is fixed wrt the electronics and hence no (or very little, from minute internal vibration/swaying of the electronics) hum. standing next to a speaker is different. you have a moving magnet and, unless the electronics of your guitar are moving at the same rate and direction as the speaker, there will be an induced electric current.

in either case the effect shouldn't be too noticeable, though it is probably in a positive feedback loop (amplifies itself again and again) if you're standing really close to that speaker cab.

cool basses! show ussssssss more finisshesssssss

that bridge looks awesome. how does the sound differ, with the increased mass of the bridge? ... or is it offset by the hollowed out saddles?
