When my DD2 arrived a couple of weeks ago there appeared to be a forklift punch in the box about one foot from the end dead center- right where the headstock sits. There was a foot long crack in the case's outer plastic and I was fearing the worst. Upon opening the case no damage to the bass was noted and I removed the foam for inspection. The case did it's job and protected it's cargo because it was designed similar to a crash helmet- lots of impact foam encased in a a plastic shell, great design there Musicman. Brandt got another case out to me in no time and another bullet was dodged, this was Fedex if anyone is keeping score.

I had a similar scare last week when the Sterling 5 fretless came. Big gash in the box, and a major indent - like they shot at it - in the hardshell. Luckily, no damage to the bass. Bass Whisperer -1, Fedex - 0.

Mark's all over this. In fact, I had the Blue Dawn HSp which went to Strummer and now is in England on vacation.

Heehee yes - that baby will be in MY grubby little paws soon. :D Can't WAIT to have some quality time with a Bongo. Will be my next purchase for sure.

The Blue Dawn is just gorgeous and I am in love with it. I think I've come to the conclusion I'd like one but not the HSp, which I will soon be sending to azzy, but maybe after just one more play...

Problem is I don't know where to get a BD 5er HH, anyone seen any around...?

They're around, I hear. Not often, mind you........

Hey Mark, I tweaked the setup a bit on this one and sat down with it last night for a few hours. What strings are on there?

I really "need" a Blue Dawn Bongo one of these days... absolutely one of my favorites. Next fretted bass will have to be a BD..... it just seems natural :) And that pic kills me.... lust, pure lust.

But alas it will be a while before I am allowed to spend any gear money.... or the wife will do evil things to me in my sleep. :)

You boys and girls enjoy the beautious Bongos!

I believe the strings on that bass are regular EB Slinkies. After I got the rosewood BFR Bongo brand new from the factory I was convinced that they were the strings that sounded the best on the Bongo and put them on all the Bongos I had.

lording it is putting it mildly

And while I stay pretty quiet on "that subject", and while I do know that my particular affliction is not widespread, for which I'm sure you're extremely glad, I will be...oh, hell, this is just too painful.

You own me. Damn it. Worthington was giving me grief about it last night. I was up late, working on this bass, chatting with him and he said, "Slinkys have made you their b!tch, admit it." And I said, "No, I'm not sure these are Slinkys!"

I got this bad-ass in my lap again tonight. Slinkys. I hate you, Sterling Ball!

Well, yeah, I'm noticing this. Cowpilot will never put up with this kind of range, but I can have my dark little secrets at home. Just don't tell THEM, okay?

To be honest, Jack I don't really understand why you need to use flats when I see in some of the pics of you playing live that the main bass head you use is a Mark Bass, if you wack that VLE filter 90% on, I find that the sound is exactly as that of a bass strung with flats or even muted when full on. I know it's a compromise, but one that allows you to go back to a nice and clean bright sound when the cowpilot lads are not around :D
