Both of these guitars are within $25.00 of each other in price but I must return one and I am humbly requesting your vote for which one you would keep and why. The Teal Quilt Axis (looks a bit more teal in better light) says it is Custom Made on the neck plate and was made in 2007 and has a much better OHSC. The Purple Flame Top Axis (looks more "grape soda" in better light) was made in 1997 and the headstock is about 40% more faded than the body of the guitar. Both guitars have minimal pick scratchings and the backs are in great shape as well. I would give a slight, slight edge to the playability of the neck of the purple Axis but both have very minimal fret wear as well. I just noticed that it looks like there is a white chip near the front pickup on the Teal Axis but it is guitar polish that I missed....oops. I love both but am faced with a dilemma!::rolleyes: Any input is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Blue / Teal all the way.

Awesome Colour and Killer top - the "Custom Made" stamp on the neck plate indicates it's a premium top (upcharge).

That top on the teal one is amazing! I would keep that one and look for another purple at a later time.

I almost forgot but there is a different imprint on the MM Gotohs. The Teal says "High Stability Tremelo System" and the Purple says "Licensed Under Floyd Rose Patents." I am just curious as to why there is that difference. Hmmmm.

There is some interesting detail in between the pickups on the Teal/Blue Axis. Almost like a face or a flower. I have a three day window to return the Purple one and a ten day return for the Teal so I gotta move pretty quick.

Ok EVERYONE is gonna jump on me for saying this but........

the 1997 one in a heartbeat. I think that older guitars sounds waaaay better especially when played alot. Plus i think that there is a slight edge in the way they were made. kill me now guys. but that is what i think.

then again.. AWLAYS go for the one you think sounds better and plays better. screw the color.

my two cents...

close your eyes and play them both

keep the one that sounds better to your ears and your hands :)

now from cosmetic point of view I'll keep the blue

Just my 2 cents: it's weird, but I'd go the 1997. Has more character, and, while the quilt on the blue one is killer, the other one looks more special to me.

So..........the Purple Flame has a few votes now. This is tough. I've actually been playing the last 4 hours tonight, mostly with the lights off so I can focus on the tone and I am going to let my ears reset and play more tomorrow. I've been saving up for a long, long time (more than 2 years)for an Axis and I am taking everyone's comments very seriously.:)

Blue/Teal

Don't let silly people dissuade you! (J/K my fellow KNuckleheads, <3 you all!)

That quilt top is massively insane.

And for those who are arguing about the "older is better" it only comes to an extent. Get the newer one, you want the guitar to grow old with you, not have someone else grow old with it then pass it on.

Rationally it make little sense to buy a 10+ year old guitar without knowing its history in-depth and explicitly. This is the biggest part for me in buying used. A lot of guitar damage CANNOT be seen. You have NO WAY of knowing the type of environmental stresses it's been living in. No way. There's absolutely NO WAY to know whats happened to it, and no way to know if the owner is being honest, even being honest about being the first owner.

I'm not trying to press my case by being a cynic, but you have the 3 strongest and most important points going for you on the Blue/Teal one:

1. The top is insanely hot.
2. The guitar is young and gives you both a chance to bond.
3. An exceptionally greater chance that the guitar has suffered less stress.

Old gutiars are like worn in jeans. perfect.

So what did playing with the light off do for ya?? except play badly?? lol just kidding,

which one sounds better to you?

I agree to one statement that said to play with your eyes closed and see which one sounds better to you and feels better.

I can honestly say that after playing guitar for 25 years even when you have an amazing looking axe it DOESNT MATTER what it looks like. especially when you play it cause ya cant see the damn thing! im serious!

You can take this from a guy that owns a gorgeous Axis. and i mean gorgeous. Even if it was ugly as sin, when it sits in my hands it sings to me.

Are you wanting to be able to sell the guitar down the road? The blue one will sell faster. If you dont care about the resale value keep the one that feels and sound best. The teal one is my vote though :)
