I got an eBay Axis Sport in burst with ash body and 2 MM90s with 9v battery hatch and the gun oil neck finish and locking tuners . That was several years ago. It's maybe in 90-95% condition and a couple of tiny dings.

Serial # G03855 and headstock marked 'San Luis Obispo CA'

Can anyone tell me how it stacks up in popularity? It does play great and sounds versatile for country, blues, rock and roll. :D

Agreed, I love my Sport... Emerald Green 2HB and a Swamp Ash body allows it to be one of the most versatile guitars I have ever owned. The tone is right up there with the 2HB AL... wish I could get another Sport with an All ROSEWOOD neck... that would something else!!!

I personally like the guitar. I prefer the non-pickguard HH models with a trem. Ash body was cool.

As far as popularity goes, I think you'll only find a limited number of people interested in them, hence them being discontinued. Too bad, 'cause it's really a great guitar. It is a rarity.

I personally think the introduction of the Super Sport was what killed the Sports. If I remember right the Sports were $1400 (List) and the Super Sports were $1650 (List) for $250 more (List) it seems like a no-brainer to go for the maple top for most consumers. I think the Sport lost out due to the lack of a maple top...

I love my MM90 Axis for any kind of clean or bell-y sounding tones along with stuff a bit distorted that you want to have clear notes sounding through.

Anytime the songs call for U2 sounds anywhere....the MM90 guitar comes with me. (it's the blue on in my pic)

are the MM90 Super Sports still an Ash body under the maple cap? If so, it is as close to the tone of an old Sport as you can get
