Yeah, it was stolen from inside my apartment in Scranton, PA. I did file a police report (they stole my laptop as well - all in all, a little over $2000 worth of stuff.) The cops said a detective would call me (which hasn't happened yet in 6 days after being robbed) and said they'd check the local pawn shops (which, incidentally, my cell phone broke so I'd have to manually check / call all of them on someone else's phone.) Maybe I'm being lazy, but I just feel like they're like. 95% chance of being gone forever at this point. not insured unless my homeowner's covers it somehow, which I doubt it does... but that's a problem for later.

Anyways, thanks bovinehost for the help and to all for the concern. :(

We all feel your pain, UtBDan, and unfortunately many of us can relate. Hell, I still keep an eye out for my first love, a 2000 Candy Red SR 4, even though it has been over 6 or 7 years.

Good luck, and we're all pulling for you.

Every once in a while check the following websites:

- Craigslist
- eBay
- Music-Go-Round
- Guitar Center used instruments.

You should physically go around to the pawn shops in your area. If you call and they have it, they'll lie to you. They know that if it is proveable that it was stolen, they will have to forfeit it to you.

Speaking of which - you better get some documentation together that proves you own this bass in the event that the police call you and tell you to bring proof of ownership to collect your bass back. If you can't, you may very well watch someone buy your bass from a pawn shop.

You may want to also post to Craigslist with a wanted to buy - MusicMan bass ad to see if anything comes out of the woodwork.

Good luck to you man. Hope it works out.

Not sure why you feel there will not be any coverage for your bass and the laptop. They were on premise.

my homeowner's insurance is for back home in Connecticut. this happened at my off-campus apartment for college in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

I'm meeting with the detective (finally) in about 20 minutes. I'm still not optimistic, but trying to be hopeful.

I wish we could do that, but I bought it used from a guy who kept it about ten minutes (fool!) and have no memory of who it was. Probably a TB guy.

It wasn't me! It wasn't me!

Seriously though, any chance it might be in the colors/finish thread Jack? Sorry for you loss...I have had my share of losses over the years to and it is always tough...Hope you can find her and get her back home where she belongs.

Peace,

T

I'm sorry to read about this; you guys did some good sleuthing with the serial number.

I thought I had lost my first love, an old combo amp, to a not-so-scrupulous ex-bandmate... lost touch with him, coincidentally, after he promised to pay for it. Nine years later (last month) I walk into American Music in Fremont, and, lo and behold, there it is in the corner, waiting for a buyer.

I thought I would just let it go (no record of serial number, etc.), but not before recording a few licks with it with a bass on the wall, and I also took a photo, because I couldn't believe I had just ran into it (after a serendipitous bus ride and deciding at the last moment to buy some strings...);

I'm just saying 'keep the faith'... it's out there waiting to be found, man. And I hope you do indeed find it.

Thanks so much.

Whoa, how cool is THAT?

(And sad that it's almost always someone you know.)

But hey, all's well that ends well!

Awesome that you got it back!

How well do you know your neighbor? Was he a friend or a stranger?

I don't know him very well. It's ironic though, I live in a 6 apartment building (in apartment 5, the guy who did it was in 6), and when it happened, no claimed to have heard anything even though the walls are like paper thin; but he was the only guy in the entire building who was sympathetic.

Everyone else was like "yeah, s*** happens" and I was there like wow, really? seriously?
and he was there like "man, that sucks."

...and he took it and sold it to a pawn shop. they haven't found my computer yet, but I'm not nearly was worried. I have my bass back..

Man I hope your a nicer guy than me. If my neighbor had stole one of my basses or anything for that matter, I would bust his face wide open. I do hope that you are pressing charges on him. Major congrats on getting your bass back, it doesn't happen that often!

I know this isn't right but I've always been a Guy to get even, That Neighbor should move if he lived near me because his day would be coming sooner than later.
Sad to say but we have to protect ourselves, as he did get caught but he'll only get a slap on the Hand, I'd blow them Off.
Glad your getting it Back.
