I've noticed that some of you have what appear to be the same bass but with minor differences. In other cases, some look identical. Why would you want two of the exact basses? Just curious.

I'm not sure I understand the question.

Personally, it has to do with the feel of the guitar/bass. I rarely venture out of my favorite type of guitar or bass. In my case, the JP6 and the bongos. I know how they feel and what they will sound like. I don't have to make any amp or pedal adjustments. Simply play them and know what I am getting as far as tone and sound goes.

Nice basses.

I'm with Jack, I don't understand either...

I can easily see the variances which to me make them different. The same with Bovinehost's Bongos. But I have seen picture before of as many as four identical basses. Not that a rationale has anything to do with it, I could see doing that if they were all tuned differently or had different strings. That wouldn't show in pictures.

Why have more than one tee shirt, apart from the clean bit.why not just buy them all black or blue ? Because we like choice even if its just a colour difference or maybe its because we can,or maybe its just right time and place to get a new one.guess we just do because we do

I've been a Stingray 5 player since 1993; I own 3 Stingray 5's (2 fretted and a fretless). I own multiple SR5's because I'm comfortable playing them and I know how to make them work for me. I've played them in just about every musical style; I vehemently disagree with those who call them 1-trick ponies.

Also of possible note: I bought a fretless SR5 for the familiarity in tone and the muscle memory to help facilitate playing in tune.

After a very long time playing all sorts of basses & stuff it's all boiled down to the StingRay tone/feel for me . . . nothing else works for me so when I get GAS, it's a Ray - I swap'em in and out and I don't deviate - has to be a single H. And colorwise, lately it's got to be Black or Tobacco . . . a pic of my current basses, which believe it or not, feel and sound very different (to me, especially 2EQ vs. 3EQ):

At one point my collection was 4 Stingrays... 3 4H's and 1 5H. I have moved on from my Stingray only phase and entered my variety phase. I have owned a total of 11 MM Basses in my ever changing collection. JOSH

Why do we have different colored socks? Hmmmm...
:)

They make socks in colors other than white? Eeek.

There are no identical basses. Every instrument feels and sounds different. I can understand the question - I personally wouldn't buy sight-unseen two of the same color basses with the same options. However, if you picked up and played two basses and they have two different personalities that you were really into and they happened to be the same color and options, would that stop you from buying them (assuming you had the money)?

For some I imagine it's fashion, for some it could be function, and for others maybe even obsession.

With my wife's imposed limit of three basses, I make sure all of them are MUSICMAN and different from each other....:D

Stingray 4 H Vintage sunburst / Rosewood
Sterling 4H Egyptian Smoke / Rosewood
25th 5HH / Maple (on layaway)

Two of the same model bass? Equipment backup.

Two of the same model bass, but in different colours? Fashion.

All different basses?

1. Short attention span

2. Easily bored

3. Always on the look-out for the "latest thing"

4. Likes to keep people guessing

5. Addicted to status symbol approval

6. Craves variety and the attention it brings

7. Has got to be the first to get something that's brand new. Hmmm...

I think I need therapy!

I haven't always been this way.

Wait...yes I have!
:p
