Don't get fooled, it's not a Classic Stingray because it was in 1996.

This performance always makes both happy and sad at the same time. I know what bass line I'll play first when my Natural arrives.

Jill Jones is also easy on the eyes.:D

Yep, that was the last one. Seriously, it gets me when he says "I've got the Tokyo flu".

But, like you said, there's so much good stuff to be happy about. He was a huge influence on so many of us.

It always amazes me (although it shouldn't) that so many famous "stand-out" bass-lines were played on MusicMan basses. These types of bass-lines are so crucial to the vibe of the song that they need to be heard and there is no better way for them to be heard than on a MusicMan.

Every bass player that I've met (or heard) who plays MusicMan basses has been a really good player.

I recall Mrs.sitonmybass saying something to the effect that MusicMan basses have such a clear sound that you can't cover up any shortcomings that you may have as a player; you've got to be good.

Man, she's smart...

I guess that clear sound puts you in a position where you have to play well. Hmmm...

The concert DVD is well worth getting, been lucky enough to See Mr Bernards Edwards do his thing for real, great player, nice bloke to boot. He may have dabbled with Spectors, Sadowsky, G&L etc, but this man and the Stingray are like Jack and coke to me, Nard and Phil are the reason I play the bass guitar and I miss them both so much. No better way to end a post to knuckleheads than to say, GOOD TIMES!

Thanks for bringing this up. Great musician, smart bass lines, cool sound. These bass lines cry for a Stingray :)

Hard to believe, that Mr Edwards died some hours later.

Ugh...

That was sooooo good! :)

Sometimes I'm considering to quit this 5 stringer way of todays bass usage and buy a decent natural/maple SR 4 like this..., one tone , one sound...and all in fingers like Perty said!

Remember, you can play anything on a 5-string that you can play on a 4-string but not vice-versa.

I'm just sayin'...

OK, no problem, that's correct, ...for my semi-pro usage definitely I can't imagine play without low B string any more, but...You know, for good ol' dayz and for home practice ...etc., ...it would be great to have one prefect 4 banger, like this one in this video! :)

I would be curious to know if Bernard Edwards engaged his string mutes. I've been experimenting with the bridge mutes on my new Classic, and find I really like the E and A strings fully muted. I was surprised that I didn't lose any sustain, (like my P bass when muted) but instead get a real pleasant "string attack" sound. Can't wait for the EBMM to release a fretless Classic.

It doesn't sound like he used the mutes. Supposedly Bernard only used the factory flats that came with the bass. The old story floating around; some interviewer asked him what strings he plays, and he turned to Nile and asked "what strings come on a Musicman?".

It's always chilling to watch him on his last show. I remember when we heard he died in Japan. Me and my musician buddies were in disbelief and sadness.
It's nice though John Taylor was given Bernard's StingRay and still uses it.
