Assuming you knew you weren't going to wait for the Game Changer,

and you have in your gear budget enough for any regular production-model EBMM (no BFR or JPX),

and you already own a Silo (no Piezo),

What would you buy?

I'm going to purchase another EBMM in a few days and I'm having a really rough time choosing between the JP6 w/Piezo, the Reflex, or the AL HH. They all have things I like, but none of them combine everything I like.

I love the solid rosewood neck on the AL HH, but that body style feels a little small to me. I'm not a huge guy (6'0", 185lbs) but I'm big enough for the AL to feel a little "travel-sized" on a strap. However I love everything else about the guitar.

I'm really interested in the Piezo option on the JP6, but I've never played one in person (and no stores locally have one in stock). I'm worried that the neck will be too flat/thin for me to play comfortably. FWIW, I found the neck shape of my (now sold) standard Morse to be extremely comfy and I love the Silo neck... But if we're talking about a Wizard-thin neck on the JP6, it might be a deal-breaker. I've also read that the arm carve can be odd-feeling unless you wear the guitar up high on a strap. Again, I have no hesitation about any other feature of the guitar.

Finally there's the Reflex, which seems really killer, but lacks the rosewood neck and Piezo options that are appealing in the other two guitars. It also lacks the things that make me hesitant about the other two as well...

..so you see my dilemma!

Opinions?

I'd go AL HH. The body size becomes really, really comfortable. The ALs are the most comfortable guitars I have now. I'm your size.

Then, when the coffers fill again you can get a Reflex with the Gamechanger and between the two you'll have all the bases covered. This is my plan in fact, if I can find an AL HH for sale in Canada.

Though I actually really like the JP6 sound AND the piezo-performance, the neck, for me, is just too thin and flat. I'm also a sucker for full rosewood necks, they are so nice to play, really resonant. From everything I heared from the AL it is capable of an amazing amount of ground it covers. I like the reflex, but I would go for the GameChanger if I went that route.

I hear you, man.

I do worry about how serviceable a GameChanger would be, though. I gig a lot and beer, sweat, gunk, (puke?) will make its way into the guitar over time. Should something fail, I need to be able to fix it with a soldering iron - not a service order.

I'm not dissing the GameChanger at all - it's brilliant! I'm just a simple guy... though I would like to know what they'll be selling for. That info doesn't seem available yet.

It'll be wait and see on the reliability-front. I never had any electrical issues with ANY guitar btw, let alone EBMM. I understand your reluctance btw, but with this company in particular I'm willing to take a bet. I'm pretty sure they tested the cr@p out of those proto's :D. I'm REALLY curious about the price as well.

given that i personally know your silo and how AMAZINGLY she feels in ones hands... i have to say that the JP necks are very thin and flat- and for me they are the least comfortable necks for me... not that they are bad but they are certainly thinner than what you have (and it's noticeable)

when the gas starts to raise up in me i always poke a look at the HH AL and the AL was one of my top three when i was looking at the EBMM line anyway... she's just a brilliant piece of art work...

Yeah Peter - the Silo and I are deeply in love. I am treating her well. My wife is jealous.

It sounds like the JP6 is just not gonna cut it for me re: the neck shape. Thanks for the input, guys. I'm reluctantly removing that one from the options.

Still not sold between the AL HH and the Reflex, though... argh!

I should probably wait to see if the GameChanger falls in my price range, though.

I'm sure EBMM or Colin and Pete will have answers regarding the GC price later this day!

And Silo necks are just stunning, every time I pick mine up first thing in my head is "what a neck". No kidding.

Yeah, they're just so playable. Every time I pick up my Silo, I just play.. No need to think about the instrument, just music. That's the mark of a good guitar.

Quick question, why not just try them yourself before buying? That way you'd really see if the neck is too thin on the JP, etc.

Don't know where Sosomething is from, but around these parts I've NEVER seen an AL OR a Reflex/25th in the flesh...JP's are easier to get your hands on and I would surely advise to pick em up if you can. This is a nice place to get some input about neckprofiles if you have to order sight unseen :)

Those pups in the AL and the Reflex are killer and the all Rosewood neck is really nice.

But 10 different sounds in a Reflex. Thats my choice. :)

i'm so glad she went to a great home... the 20th silo was my first ebmm and to just pick her up from the first day and even now i just play. no struggles and ironically my playing and desire to play have increased... COULD IT BE THE GUITAR?

if i pick up any other brand now it's a fight to find the zone... but with the silo it's there... from the first fret to the ummm.... 24th... lol man i love me some silo! :)

Ah I see!
Well, personally I love my JP-model and can't think of anything that is bad with it. It feels great to play, easy to bend and I love the neck aswell. But I mean, I can't say if you will find the JP necks too thin. Best bet is to actually try one but that'd be difficult with no stores that has it.. >.<

my vote would be the HH AL. The size is bigger then your Silo and they are so versatile with their sound (pick up selection) not to mention the overall tone. Sure the Reflex has 10 pickup selections, but for me the HH AL would be the choice. Now, if you are going after a Reflex call a GC and track down a Blue, Green or Trans Black one... not to many of those around and they look sharp.
