While I can see the color as being maroon, I do believe the official color is called Metallic Red.

Pat, can you shed some light on this please?

Can a pickguard from a Silo Sp fit on a Sterling SUB? I have a loaded HSS one (with Silent Circuit) that I sometimes use in my Silo Sp, but it would be great to have a dedicated instrument for it.

I have ordered a Metalic Red Sub Silo3 from an online store here in Australia. Insane price and bought after a superb review in July issue of Guitar World Magazine. Should arrive in 2 days time and I can't wait. I will upload some pics and a maybe a video when it arrives! This will be my first Music Man guitar and I'm happy to join the community here.:D

S.U.B. will occupy a lower price point. SBMM is not going away.
Pat in the near future what does sterling have in mind for improvements to the AX-40 if any?
Me personally only think that maybe the neck shape should be a little more closer to the axis?
Is it taboo that the ax-40 has a computer scanned neck shape cloned from the axis?
color wise i think solids would be welcome? like a GOLD top with the black back!
That would be so awesome to have a AX-40 that has the same finish as a gold top les paul!
BLACK would great too and would appeal to the metal heads.
a gloss Black facing with the normal binding WOW that would be hot and look classy at the same time.
