I was out yesterday and saw a used but appeared to be in good shape 1979 Saber Bass at Skips Music in Sacramento.

If anyone is interested and they wont ship it let me know and i can help facilitate the shipping. It was a natural finish

Got the bass - very nice, thank you again peterd79. Very surprised at how straight and clean this bass is. The body finish looks like it had a good buffing to it, but very few nicks. The neck has that nice aged yellow look, almost orange. Overall, very clean bass. It will need a set up to get some of the buzz out of the neck, but it sounds like a classic Music Man.

Peterd79 - if you eve need someone to ship a bass to you from the Dallas area, I'll be happy to return the favor.

Basscaster,

Nice score! I have a 1980 with the same wood combo, except with a brass nut (got it that way) and a custom brown amber tort guard (my doing).

Curious.....neck width at the nut? I keep hearing that narrow width is rare, but every Sabre I have come in contact with (5 of 'em) all had /have narrow width. I had a '79 from '79-'99, and over the past several years acquired the '80 I described, plus a '79 Sunburst. After acquiring those two, I passed on two others that came up for sale. All had maple necks.

I'm starting to wonder if all maple necked Sabres are narrow width.

I know - can we say the price on used instruments? : ) It was a fair price, likely symbolic of a decrease in value for viontages Sabres now that limited production has begun again. Which is totally okay by me as a buyer.

Congratulations on that beautiful Sabre!

Regarding neck width: My '83 (pre-EB), '86 and '88 all have maple necks with standard 1 5/8" nut.

i think price is ok with used instruments just not NEW...

and i don't think you'll take a hit on the value of the bass because re-issue guitars never hold the same value as the original.

a '57 Les Paul Gold top will fetch more than a '57 Les Paul Gold Top Re-Issue... so i think you'll be good :)
