A few years back I saw Dream Theater at the Greek Theater, and the guitarist from one of the opening bands (Scale the Summit) played a Petrucci BFR.

Hey guys. Tonight was simply awesome! Tommy and Steve were super nice. Tommy even let me check out some of Steve's guitars which played like butter!

I did get to have a funny moment when Steve saw me backstage with my Y2D and I said, "well, this is embarrassing!" But like I said, he was great about it and did seem genuinely thrilled to see other people playing his signature guitar. He was very curious about my mods. I blocked the trem from pitching up and installed a D Tuna. He said he would have taken a dremmel tool to the cavity so that the D-Tuna would work without a blocked trem, but I told him that I'd feel awful to carve into the beautiful top on the body. Then he showed us the mods he made to his #1 blue guitar. I got to see how he shaved the heel on the back of the body. It was a very awesome experience for a Steve Morse fan!

The show was great. We had a great set and Deep Purple was incredible. My favorite part was Steve's solo. It was so beautiful. Unfortunately I had to leave a bit early, so I didn't get to hear the end of their set. We have to leave the hotel at 5:45 tomorrow to fly back to NYC.

I did take lots of pictures, but I don't have a computer with me on the road. If I can figure out how to post pics from my phone, I'll do it tonight. If not, I'll have to wait until I get home.

I want to thank everyone here for giving me good advice! I especially want to thank Tommy for being so incredibly cool and letting me geek out on Steve's gear!

Man that is so cool. I would have been proud to play that guitar with Steve there.

Excellent! When I met Steve he was nicer than nice!

Couldn't agree more. His wife had to drag him away from our conversation, lol. He seemed to really enjoy talking shop and his wife was very patiently waiting to skedaddle. Really nice of him to hang out and chew the fat with me.

Richiesos,

Thank you so much for sharing the story and pictures with the board.
I genuinely enjoyed hearing about your experience and your experience with Steve Morse and your Y2D.

Cheers,

Tom

Hi Richie,

if you don't mind me asking: Did you also use your Morse amp? (You have a couple of vids on YT with it..don't know if it's your gigging amp). Also..the action on your Y2D seems rather high (but that could just be the angle in which the picture is taken). How do you have it setup action wise?

Thanks for those pics. Hey when did Steve start wearing sleeveless shirts? HAHAHA
On a side note, Tommy if youre reading this, you look a lot healthier these last couple years...must be all the time with Morse who continues to defy aging and the typical rock and roll lifestyle.

And anyone who hasn't checked out Richie's vids of queen and beatles...DO IT NOW! Still the most amazing things ever.

I don't get to use my Engl Morse amp on fly out dates. It's too heavy and fragile to put under a plane. I was very envious of Steve's rig last night. It sounded incredible.

I've actually just changed my whole BOC fly out rig. I was using rental Mesas, but I was starting to get frustrated with the inconsistent sound and quality of the different amps. Now, I'm using a Pod HD-500 into a BBE sonic stomp pedal. That goes into a Matrix stereo power amp which drives a Marshal 4x12. It took a while, but I have everything dialed in now and it's been sounding really awesome.

Check it out!
