Hi Y2D owners..can any of you tell me whether the single coil can be soloed? According to the official diagram, position 3 selects the single coil only, however on mine it seems one of the bridge bucker's coils (the one nearest to the single coil) is active as well. So atm mine seems to be;

Pos 1 - bridge
Pos 2 - bridge + single
Pos 3 - single + 1 bridge coil
Pos 4 - neck and bridge
Pos 5 - neck

That's weird. Position 3 should be the single on its own. You sure it's wired incorrectly? Tap on the pole pieces with a screwdriver to be sure?

That's the thing, tapping on the pole pieces does make sounds like I've described (pos 3 single + one bridge coil) and also the review at this link Music Man Steve Morse Y2d | Guitar Reviews | MusicRadar mentions the following;

"An unusual feature is the placement of this single-coil immediately adjacent to the DP-200 in the bridge and, although the option of soloing this coil isn't available here, position two combines it with the full humbucker and position three with its closest neighbouring coil. While we're on the subject, position four combines both humbuckers in parallel - told you we didn't miss it - with the final position soloing the neck 'bucker."

The factory wiring is the single by itself. If you bought it second hand, maybe somebody wired it a little differently? I have a coil split on mine so I can get that sound, and it's neat.

Well, I just did another check and something happened to the wiring because all the positions select the single + the bridge except pos 5 which is the neck only.. (as you tap the coils you can hear it) The funny thing is there are slight variations as you change the positions and I've always thought that's the way it was supposed to be. I'm pretty disappointed I didn't pick up on this earlier as I've had the guitar for 5 years now.. I'll email CS and see whether they can recommend someone in Budapest to redo it.

p.s The guitar was bought brand new (supposedly) from an EBMM premium dealer in Melbourne.

Haha. Odds are it's something simple. The Y2D is pretty easy to wire up- once they send you a schematic, I'm sure you can find somebody local to give it a once over.

That's what I'll do. From whom should I request the schematic..or if you have one are you able to send it to me?

Good point and one that I'm not sure about.. I'm tapping the body of the pickups with a metal screwdriver (not the poles, just the body) and I can hear it through the amp but the sounds do change a little. This is where I'm not sure if the wiring is off or if it's what it should be..I just don't have the experience. :confused:

As mentioned, best way is to tap the pole pieces themselves with a metal screwdriver.

When you tap the housing, you'll hear the vibrations through neighbouring pickups. When you tap the pole pieces, you'll hear a much louder noise. No doubt that way.
