*The other post I did was a mess*

Dear MM lovers,

I would like to share with you detailed pictures of my Stingray. This particular instrument was given to Forrest White by Leo Fender and it was the very first ever produced. You'll notice some particularities in its construction.
I am happy to answer any non financial questions about it.

Pictures here

Enjoy, and have a nice day.

It's nice to see the close similarities between the prototype and current production models. Those guys really had it right, even that early in the evolution of the instrument.

I think that was a blunder...it was loaned to larry thomas then ceo of guitar center....I loaned them leos lab tele....I would be careful on this.

I don't really understand your post, sorry. This bass was bought from GC Hollywood, and among all the official documentation that came with it there is a letter of Joanne White confirming the authenticity of the bass and its sale to GC

The thing is, this is not a prototype. According to Forrest's wife and Forrest himself (in his book Fender, the Inside Story), this is the first production model. It was also used to make the pictures for the first Stingray advertisement.

I'm pretty sure the owner of the company knows his facts. For those playing at home, he's the guy who added the second post to this thread.

Now what?

Is that 1st serial produced Stingray, or isn't?

Here you find a picture of the letter included in the paperwork I got from Guitar Center. Unless someone at GC decided to forge this and other documents included with the bass, and unless Forrest White himself was wrong about it, I would say this is the first production model. However, I would be very interested in any of you had more information about it.

Very nice - congrats. When did you purchase this bass? Great detail on the pics. Would be cool to see more pics with it fully assembled.

Yup. Changed hands for some toadally oudtragemous shekels ...

Frank Lee, if I'da somehow stumpled into ownership of some MM
worth, marketwise, more than a house, I'da cashed it in without
hesitation, and happily [and clumsily] kept on playing my basses
that are worth a bit more than a set of new tires for my Kia :)

Cash under the mattress beats a treasure in a glass case any day,
at least thaz the gospel on Planet Golem.

If that's the one from GC Hollywood it was listed at 10K

Yup ... thaz the one I was remebbering. "Worth more than a house" was
clearly an exageration, at least for MM items. Certain Gibbys really have
changed hands at 6-figgers USD.

Well, '59 Burst LPs sell for "stupid money". Why? Because all of the big famous guys had one back in the day, so all of the deep-pocketed Clapton, Billy Gibbons, Duane Allman, etc etc etc fanboys have to have one, which drove prices up through the roof.
