A single, poor quality 350x900 JPEG taken with an employee's camera phone and with a description limited to the 100 characters of the page's headline is not how you sell used gear, especially the pieces that are going for $2000 or more.

On the other hand, sometimes those sleepers turn out to be hidden gems that wouldn't have been there (for me) with better advertising. And that same apparently lazy used part of their business has worked out in my favor, as I've had pretty good experiences unloading my used stuff to GC for a fair price, and with less hassle than Craigslist or Ebay.

...some people would bich if you hung them with a new rope...

(The ID generation. .. I deserve....)

We've usually had the experience mentioned by doc rock...
You just have to know how to shop...

Because GC's used gear web site is embarrassingly awful means I don't know how to shop. Okay.

And just because I expect quality for my money and because I expect a retailer to provide decent service does not mean I feel unreasonably entitled. Don't be so quick to excuse poor service. That's lazy.

Part of being a good shopper is knowing that poor service happens more often than not these days. Seek out good contacts and sales people and build a relationship with them. It takes time.
And if a business treats you poorly, don't return. There are always others who want your business...
Always other options. ..

BP, please lock this thread out lol. It was supposed to be about pricing, or gc vs mom pop etc etc, it was merely meant to point out the clearance to anyone not aware and its stewed into this

True story: find the manager of a GC that treats you right and you are golden. As with all things, it's really who you know. I have a GC that matches everything, including delivered price without tax and shipping. Five states away, but will jump on the phone/facetime and shoot video live while we talk. Every time I feel like I'm getting a better deal, I get burned--just happened today. Had to return a Game Changer that was not new and was supposed to be, from non-GC. Same holds true for M&Ps, find a good one. This stuff isn't cheap and a lot of people have a lot of money tied up in it. I had some ****ty experiences with GC until I found the right person. It's how the world works.

To everyone who bitches about GC ... consider how lucky you are to have stores with huge musical inventory nearby. For many of us, it's a wild goose chase to find things to try.

(I say this as a guy in a big crowded city near small stores of varying inventory.)

Have you been to Cosmo Music in Toronto? That is an amazing store with more guitars than the 2 GC's in my city (Buffalo). I believe they carry EBMM in addition to Suhr, Tom Anderson.

Yessir (I grew up not far from the old location), it's a great store for sure. But it's a looong way from downtown ... and even further in traffic.

It'd actually be a pretty cool shop to visit Kev- there are some good ones downtown with small MM supplies, but it's big. We could, perhaps, make an afternoon of it ...

You hit the nail on the head there ! My GC experience changed DRAMATICALLY when I connected with a great manager. It became Concierge Service !

I've found there are good GC guys and bad ones. Most guys at the platinum level know the product. Others not so much. Generally I know a lot more about most products before I go in there. if you ask a question to some of them you get the old deer in the headlights look lol

Greg; very succinct. This is what makes our country great! The ability to voice our collective opinions based on our own personal experiences. BP is in an obvious conundrum of trying to facilitate his #1 buyer and also satisfy the consumer. This thread has shed light on both ends, and helped me to further understand the struggle between manufacturer and buyer. Thanks to all for giving us the opportunity to learn from each other.

Thanks, and yes, I agree: it is great that we can express our opinions. I try to use my opinions to help people, but it doesn't always come across like that.

I know BP is in an awkward position in this thread with GC, and I completely understand that. But I have to give him a lot of credit for swimming with the sharks like he does on these boards on a day-to-day basis. I don't know of any other owners/executives of other guitar companies who do this. He leaves himself open to angry customers who could get very loud and aggressive in a public setting. This demonstrates how much confidence he has in his products, which says more than almost anything else he could possibly do, from a marketing perspective.

Greg one thing....its never the same behind the wheel than you imagine....This isnt a tough thread....not at all...guitar center has its warts but is better than they get credit for...remember people focus and remember usually bad news.....

I got a new black HSS Luke 3 for (a great deal) when I called the Arlington Heights Store. Now I got it and it plays great but had it setup with a not so good guitar guy. Have a bit of what seems a "ground issue". If that is all that is wrong with it it will still be a heck of a great deal.

I purchased 4 EBMM guitars from GC (returned one for fret issue). I can confirm that I got them for great prices... but I suspect - pure speculation - that Ernie Ball has put GC on credit hold just like PRS and Behringer did.
