Playing out last night was damn hot... what we like to call a 4 shirt night (changing shirts after load in, and between each set because it so so hot and humid). After load in our instruments were subjected to harsh weather and you could see the necks shifting. Kept a small screw driver on top of my rig and adjusted the truss wheel through each set... humidity, no problem! My guitarist wasn't so lucky (he is going to have to do a mondo setup today - hehe).

Anyway, the truss wheel is just brilliant and is among the best things ever invented (I bleeb slice bread is in there somewhere too but definitely after the truss wheel)

Why isn't it industry standard yet? There are at least two other manufacturers that I have seen using it, so I'm guessing it isn't a patent issue at this stage. Why not more? It's just right, like the 34" scale - there's no shame in copying that one, right?

Yes the truss wheel is such a marvelous invention. My band played an afternoon street festival gig yesterday in the sweltering heat and humidity. Since I knew it would be a hectic day, I didn't want to subject either of my StingRays to the crazy heat and frantic load in and load off. Instead I used one of my non-EB basses. Big mistake, as the neck kept going out of adjustment.

But with one of those silly truss rod covers, buried under the strings on the headstock, not to mention the neck is a dual-rod setup (6 stringer), I just couldn't take the time to do any adjusting. I kept thinking 'why isn't the truss wheel standard equipment on all basses...like seatbelts in cars'?

Of course, I guess that's one of the big +'s of EB ownership!

Yes, the "truss wheel" - excellent!!!

Wow, truss rod adjustments after each set!!! I'm surprised you didn't burn yourself on the "strings"!!

My first bass, that I still own, is a late 1960's Shaftesbury Fender Telecaster copy and that has a wheel truss rod. I tweaked it for the first time about a year ago. I have owned the bass for over 37 years!

As a new musician/bassist I can only agree. The arid environment here has "raised" my strings a little in the few months I've owned my Stingray. Last night I jumped on the forum, researched the proper settings (including the hint that folks drop the G string an extra 1/32" closer to the post to give it a bit more punch).

In 45 minutes my Stingray was perfect! Today I played and... wow, it feels and sounds absolutely wonderful.

As one lady at church said... "that thing has tone out the wazoo!" :)

I can't imagine how frustrating it must be for non-truss-wheel-bass-owners out there!

I'll be in Cincy the 14th-18th. Are you playing out any of those nights?

Wish we were (we had 2 shows booked but our singer is on vacation and we are actually slowing down for the summer (summer bar season sucks around here for the most part))- our next gig is on the 27th

Not to be a douche, but are The Menus still together?

My brother lives in Delhi (like I used to). I'll probably be there a few times this summer. Brand new Great Nephews and such. Keep me informed.

I'd love to check out some Mark Bass gear. Do you have any ideas and directions?

Thanks, DeWayne

It's not rocket science, either an allen key or a screwdriver, depending on the bass. Even the EBMM truss wheel requires a tool of some sort.

sure, for the ones that don't require you to remove the strings to get to the trussrod. :p
